I'm doing two this week. The first is "Lady, Play your Mandolin!" This was the very first Merrie Melody, and it introduced Foxy Mouse (this was back in the days of Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising, the very early days of the studio when Bosco was the star and the characters we know of weren't invented yet.) The second one is "Daffy the Commando," which is the Loony Tune version of Disney's "Der Fuehrer's Face." This one was a Friz Freling cartoon. -CSM | ||||

| Forum Host | I WOULD like to comment on both of these, except that I've never seen either of them. The First Cartoon shows that Warner Bros. had actually Ripped off Mickey and Minnie Mouse, which I can't blame them for making cartoons to find a new mascot much later.... Otherwise it's standard Merrie Melody Fare, Have a song and have everyone sing it. ![]() The Second insults the Germans by making their generals beat on the Soldier throughout the Cartoon. I do like how they had Hitler look in the cartoon, one of my favorites is the one where he goes "HAI HITLER" and a skunk passes by, then he actually wondered why he did that. Classic. |
