Don Bluth has had a lot of awesome cartoons that we all watched as kids. Which one was your personal favorite? The Secret of NIMH Based on the Newbery Award-winning book, this story chronicles a widowed fieldmouse Mrs. Brisby, who attempts to follow the mysteries behind her dead husband and his connection to the Rats of NIMH. A very awesome movie, surprisingly dark, with cool special effects for it's time and FREAKING AWESOME SUPER-RAT SWORDFIGHTING. I'd have to say this film was my favorite. An American Tail This is the story of a family of Russian mice who leave their crappy 19th century country for the Promised Land that is America. Their son, Fievel, gets separated from them, however, and it's a big o' adventure trying to find his merry way back to them. I liked the songs in this one. The Land Before Time Who the hell hasn't seen this one? Littlefoot, a delightful little apatosaur, is orphaned after an earthquake that cuts the continent in half. He then has to travel to the legendary "Great Valley" to meet back up with his family, and along the way makes some friends. Great movie, and who doesn't like dinosaurs? I just wish they hadn't gone crazy with all those crappy sequels. All Dogs Go To Heaven Charlie is a bad dog. He has ties to the mafia. But when he's up and murdered by his own mates, he ends up in the line for Hell. However, he sneaks his way out and (supposed dead) attempts to reclaim his empire from the bottom up. To help him, he enlists a delightful orphan girl, but eventually realizes he's taking care of the kid for more than just getting back his money. Bawwwwww. Rock-A-Doodle There was was a rooster named Chanticleer. Every morning, he'd sing to wake up everyone on the farm. But one day, he gets a little sidetracked and forgets to crow. Everyone thinks he's a schmuck. Saddened, he leaves the farm for the city. It's only when the residents of the farm realize the charming rooster's singing that made the sun rise that the want him back. I myself never got to see much of this movie, so I can't say much about it. Thumbelina The mythical tiny woman falls in love with a fairy prince, but then gets kidnapped by an assortment of cruel and peculiar creatures, many of which who seem to want her hand in marriage. I saw this once or twice when I was little, but I can't remember a whole lot about it. A Troll in Central Park A troll named Stanley has a magical green-thumb that can make flowers grow anywhere. However, the other trolls don't appreciate beauty as much as him and have him banished to Manhattan (DUN DUN DUN). There, he meets and befriends a couple of young children who can see through to his true beauty. I only saw this once when I was a kid, and I remember getting sad when Stanley was turned to stone near the end. The Pebble and the Penguin Hubie the penguin wants to impress his lady-love, so he decides to give her a pebble. Not just a pebble, but a special pebble. Or not. I don't know. But in fashion of Bluth's films, the bad guy sends him away from Antarctica and he has to find his way back home to his loved ones. Anastasia The daughter of the last Russian Czar before the Soviet revolution in 1919, Anastasia eventually grows up and decides to return home to find her family. The mad monk Rasputin, however, wanting the entire Royal family dead, comes back from death himself to ensure her demise. I remember watching this when I was a kid, and being scared when Rasputin died (his skin melts off and he turns into a glowing-green spasming skeleton before turning into dust, what the ****). Post and vote. Edit: God damn it, I forgot to create a poll. Anyone? |
