So this talk over years about a DBZ movie was true? Looking at how the animated show is, the movie will be one half screaming, one fourth flashing explosions and beams, and one fourth monologue. It may have worked out for the anime (debatably), but for a live action movie, it would probably just turn out hilarious, or just plain bad.

VG Cats - Comics - Updated Monday

That sums up the Inuyasha argument pretty well.

Anyway, Sailor Moon supposedly had a really great Manga, full of dark imagery and gore. I've yet to see this phenomena, so I'll keep my opinion tethered until it's worth using.

As well, this movie has Chow Yun Fat in it, but does that redeem the subject matter for me? Nah. Sorry.

Inu-Yasha I consider to be the sign of the failure of Takahashi-san as a manga/anime writer. Originally, her stories had progress and endings. However, as time passed, they started getting longer and longer (Maison Ikkoku only had 12 tankubon- Ranma 1/2 has 38, Inu-Yasha is well past the 60 mark) or adding sequels (Return of Lum! Urusei Yatsura, anyone?) just for the sake of protracting the character conflicts. Even Ranma 1/2 didn't really have a genuine ending. I consider Maison Ikkoku, One Pound Gospel, the Mermaid collection, and her various short Rumic Theatres to be the true great works of Takahashi-san. Inu-Yasha just makes me gag.

Bishoujo Senshi Seeramuun, on the other hand, has definable plots and subplots and story arcs... mostly in the anime. The manga, on the other hand, has the other kind of crunchy bits- serious examinations of death
Spoiler Below
(The title character at one point kills herself via impalement on a broadsword at least two-thirds her own body-length)
and spirituality and curious, interesting capabilities in the central characters, among other things.

Being that Inu-Yasha is more or less the same in book or video format (irredeemibly circular), I have to say that Sailor Moon is, in my opinion, firmly above Inu-Yasha.

As far as the movie of DBZ is concerned... we'll see. DB and early DBZ has considerably more actual character and concept development on a per-hour basis (manga or anime) than later DBZ and DBZGT, the latter of which had my attention for all of about half an episode before I decided I was fed up with watching pointless power escalation. Given the time it's set at, it seems like it might be okay....

....except for the bit where Goku is apparently an unpopular teen. How you can be totally unpopular with a Super-Boyscout Heart-Of-Gold personality like he's supposed to have is beyond me. Then again, I was always fail at the social whatnot thanks to various things, so that part of my opinion may be totally invalid.

I pretty much grew up with DBZ, until CN took it off Toonami, which was heartbreaking at the time. It's probably my all time favourite cartoon/anime/whatever else that's on TV. I don't care if the plot is mindless with emphasis on power and good vs evil morals. That's the beauty of it imo, it's what makes it unique. It can be desensitising after a while though. Its over-the-top-planet-destroying transformations and attacks just show you the extreme, which makes everything else look ****. It's the same with music, take Last Days Of Humanity for example. I'm not arguing that they don't own (which they do) but when you think about it, it's pointless imo.

Edit: Oh yeah... The movie... I guess i'll watch it for old times sake, even though it will probably be a ****ty interpretation. Why get an azn to play Master Roshi? A friggin hobo would suit him more.
