I would use it to take out the leaders of "liberation armies" (especially in Africa) and members of corrupt governments. And then think of some terrorist leaders and write them in. I would keep it, and burn it in my old age, because if it gets passed on someone who would use it for for ill or the military or government would probably end up getting it sometime in the future.

Option two would be to get a database set up with as many names (just use phonebooks) and pictures as I can get, and then write in a few strategic names, like all the world leaders, and set their deaths into the distant future. I will write that they will obey my commands without question until they die of whatever. Then I take over the world and make it one Empire, and then I write more names in the same way to create an army, with the deaths staggered in their times and set far off in the future. I would never reveal the secret of my power. I will then experiment with it as much as possible and see if I can use it to achieve immortality through a paradox created by it. At the very least I will write that I will never die of anything except God striking me dead. Then I expand my empire and take over the universe ruling as a tryant.

If I got a death note, I would probably ask my mom to run it through the shredder if it had any of my personal information on it. Otherwise, I would just throw it in the trash.
