I understood the controls, just not the goal. Do I just grab the apples and jump on the worms or what?

hes hungry, and he wants 2 things!

1: worms
2: apples!

he sneaks into a yard...but theres this DOG and this BIRD!

you have to get apples and worms while avoiding the dog and hawk!

isnt it obvios?
