I just finished it. I cried at the ending. Tears of joy. Although I'm a bit disappointed that the only character whose job we know is Neville. I thought the whole scene at the Ministry was the best part, what with Umbridge being a de facto Death Eater and Voldemort taking over the Ministry. -CSM |

Gender: Posts: 12,015 Thanks: 509 Thanked 838 Times in 574 Posts | Totally bawled during the end: all of my favorite characters died (Fred, Lupin, Tonks, Snape, Harry - kind of). Totally knew Snape was good in the end - I saw Snape/Lily from Book 5, although I'm sad he never got a chance to fully "redeem" himself in Harry's eyes... woulda been cool to actually see Snape fight Voldy. I'm emotionally spent now, but I'll comment later after I get over the euphoria/depression of finally finishing the book. |

Though, I didn't like the fact that there were TWO major characters deaths in that short span (Mad-Eye and Hedwig, whom I never realized I loved so much until she died). Yeah, that really did not bode well for the rest of the book - all my faves were dropping like flies. |

| REPEAT AFTER ME! IT'S A OASOFBASPOMELODY | My friend was pissed once he found out that Moody died because Moody, Sirius, and Dumbledore were his favorite characters. Then he listed that Fred, George, and Lupin were his next favorites. He's not going to like this book very much |

I always thought Hedwig was a part of Harry, and his absence means Harry has to work that much harder. Moody I couldn't care less about other than the fact that he's a valuable asset. But Harry is fine so long as he has Ron and Hermione (and/or Ginny, Neville and Luna). Now Lupin's death I was very sad about. Next to Sirius, I'd have to say my favorite character in the whole series is Lupin, mainly because he's one of the few people who really treats Harry as if he's his own son (Sirius is the other). I liked how the story wasn't just Harry walking around the woods alone. I liked how they had Ron and Hermione go with him, to keep him company, and be there to talk to him. -CSM |

| REPEAT AFTER ME! IT'S A OASOFBASPOMELODY | All of the spoiler information, I got from online. Before I buy it, I need to know: Is there a lot of angst in this one like the last two? |

I agree with everything you've said. Especially about Sirius and Remus - they were my favorite characters of the series, in that order (followed closely by the Weasley Twins). Although, I didn't like the epilogue. It felt a little tacked on at the end. I liked the pairings and all, but I wanted to know about the immediate aftermath - how are the Weasley's coping, what about the Harry as "godfather" to Teddy Remus Tonks relationship, how was the school restored, gimme some funerals for my beloved characters dammit!, and WHAT exactly do they do with Voldie's body - just leave it in that chamber in the school? I mean, at least throw in some Peeves desecration action or sumthin'. But I liked it overall. I really wish that Harry would have done something to publicly recognize Snape as the awesome person he was - I mean, he really was the champion in the cause, and I think they needed to show everyone making him out to be the hero (as he rightly deserved). | |

Dumbledore really didn't tell him much. Jeez, you gotta leave him in the dark on something this important? This almost made me dislike Dumbledore. In Snape's memories him talking about how Harry would be sacrificed..... it feels like he betrayed him. But I guess that's made up for later. I actually guessed about the whole Snape/Lily thing. Come on, he hates James Potter that much just because of some bullying? Not quite. And most importantly: why Fred? Why? Why not PERCY for gossakes? Fred........No! |

Good way to end the series. Man I liked Remus and Tonks. Poor Teddy. Also I'm waiting for all the yaoi fangirls of Harry Potter to kill themselves Edit: ZG: Harry did proclaim Snape's true intentions while he was fighting Voldemort and everyone important in the British Wizarding community was standing around watching. Now that the danger's passed, everyone will know everything soon enough. About Harry, James, Dumbledore, Snape, Lily, Tom Riddle, all of it. That bit of closure is inevitable. It seems like he simply knocks himself into a plothole with his hand...I thought that bond between him and Harry was supposed to be a little important, but I may have missed where it came into play... Am I the only one who wasn't sad by the deaths? The only death I came near sad enough was when Fred died, because he was a twin. If anything, Percy should have died instead of going "I AM THE OBLIGATORY CHARACTER WHO WILL NOW REDEEM MYSELF FOR THE CHARACTERS AND THE FANS!!!". I actually think Bellatrix should have been killed by Tonks. one thing I really want to know, is how secretive are the "Wizarding worlds" in Rowling's setting? The Death Eaters are CLEARLY mroe than just a big mafia or terrorist group, they kill loads of unrelated people and even threaten the British Parliament...Surely by now you'd think that at least Ireland (If they aren't part of the U.K's wizarding world already) would notice...Shouldn't the Ministry have asked for help from other countries (Like Spain, which is within swimming distance of the U.K, or France and Bulgaria or wherever-it-is-Krum-comes-from) since they clearly can't handle it on their own? Though there were circumstances that would explain that in Deathly Hallows...I just want to know why they didn't ask for help sooner. |

I mean, I felt something should have officially been done to recognize Snape as a hero - I mean, he kind of said it, then killed Voldy and everyone is like "Yay Harry!" I dunno, I'm nitpicking, but it would have been nice to see everyone get at least recognized for giving their lives in the battle - I mean, it was abrupt "well, now the world is saved - EPILOGUE". But that's just me Another thought - 19 years pass ... so, er, wouldn't Teddy Tonks BE NINETEEN? He wouldn't be going to Hogwarts, or be on the Train, he would be two years out of school already. She kind of messed up that timeline. |

And yeah, I think that everybody's more about the whole "Voldemort is dead" thing right there. The full story of how and why it happened will get out, people will get their recognitions, etc. Hahaha, I can't believe I didn't catch that timeline thing. |

Grendenwald (sic?) steals the wand from Gregorvitch (sic?) and stuns him. Nothing about disarming. Just takes it and stuns him. Somehow, Dumbledore beats Grendenwald in a duel (the Elder Wand is supposed to be undeatable in a duel, and he could've 'disarmed' him, though I don't see how that isn't 'beating' him.) and the possession of the wand transferred to him. Dumbledore planned for Snape to kill him, and I'm pretty sure about him saying something about how Snape wouldn't be beating him and would be just following his orders and the wand would belong to no one after he died. Didn't matter, since Draco disarmed him, even though that was part of Dumbedore's plan. I guess the difference was that, even though Dumbledore planned for Draco to do that, Draco intended to 'beat' him. So ownership transferred to Draco through disarming. Okay. At the Malfoy Manor, Harry disarms Draco, among other people, even though he didn't even have the wand with him. So... Harry gains possession of the Elder Wand by disarming the owner while it isn't in his possession. Harry's encounter with Voldemort, in which Voldemort uses the killing curse on him, doesn't count as beating him, since he only destroyed part of his own soul. Well, Harry somehow figured all this out and told Voldemort it, as well as thousands of people (nice going) so it's not far-fetched for someone to attempt to take ownership of it. After all, all they have to do is hide in a bush, wait for him to walk by, stun him or disarm him, and disapparate. You think that, with thousands of people knowing, it will spread to the entire wizarding world, and maybe, just maybe, someone will wait try to pull it off? After all, practically any wizard with a wand could pull it off. |
