There are so many books, maybe a top 500 list.

There shouldn't even be a 101 greatest novels of all time list. There are just too many. They should just do a 1001 novels you should read before you die list.

I'm not a fan of comparing one author to another. Even those who use similar themes have completely different styles of writing. Tolkien's work was good, for instance, but I couldn't ever get into it so much as many people seem to. A non-comparative list of classics would be much more helpful.

^Agreed.

For some reason, I also find it hard to delve into the Histories of Middle Earth as it can be a chore. That doesn't stop me from doing it, but it can still be a chore, as intersting (to me) as it is.

Of course...I never was a fan of the Tolkein books...I personally found him rather dull...Dan Brown and Tom Clancy appear the same to me.

You're right! This is sheer blasphemy! That book changed my life.

Let's go burn them down, shall we?

God, The Secret Life of Bees was awful. We did it in English class freshman year, and it was so badly written that I was actually offended at having to read it. I think the only other book I can remember being that terrible was The Sword of Shannara, which fortunately I was able to stop reading, since it wasn't for school.

All the books that we read in school that I thought were good made the list. Great Gatsby, Lord of the Flies, To Kill a Mockingbird..

I didn't like Catcher in the Rye at all though.

It's a pretty good book, I just don't see what all the fuss is about when it comes to it being a literary masterpiece.

Yeah, maybe it would make '9th best novel of March 2003' but it definitely doesn't belong on an all-time list.

I agree. I was very dissapointed after I read the entire book, and the fact that everybody thinks it's the greatest book ever is what made me hate it more, obviously when it was very average. Holden was a very interesting character, I just thought they could have done more.

The praise for Catcher is based almost exclusively on how insanely well-developed a character Holden is. However, since the entire thing is told through his words, that same character taints everyone else in the book, reducing most of them to the one-dimensional caricatures Holden views them as. I think his sister & his teacher are the only ones who come off as being anything more than a stock type.

Oh, also: The Definitive Biography of J.D. Salinger

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Haha, that was a good read. A Biography through the eyes of Holden..
