Diplomatic "Victories"

Posted 03-03-2009 at 07:06 AM by I am nobody
They were one thing in Civ III, when everyone at least had to vote. I finally got around to trying one in IV, and it wasn't quite the same.

The Timeline:

1898: UN built
1902: Essentially elect myself due being twice the size of everyone else. (but not enough for Domination)
1906: Fail at getting a DV election.
1910: Fail at getting a DV election
1914: Elect myself.
1918-1922: Pass some resolutions in the hope of making people like me.
1922: Get a defensive pact with someone.
1926: Elect myself
1930-1934: Pass every resolution except Nuclear non-Proliferation. (which no one would've passed anyway, since I maintained over 20 ICBMs)
1938-42: Fail at more DV elections.
1942-1990: Try to get people to like me more and vote for me, but fail.
1994: The other candidate changes.
...
2042: A third person finally decides to vote for me. My endgame score went from >19,000 when I built the UN to 1300.

The problem? The AI knows it loses if it votes for me, so it doesn't unless it has extremely good relations with you. (read: MD pacts)

*sigh*
