Versus 2: BALROG VS. MR. SANDMAN
Posted 08-10-2009 at 12:46 AM by Robotazy
Balrog Vs. Mr. Sandman
Boxing. It's a sport where two people fight until one person stays down for ten seconds. Today, we have Capcom's Mike Tyson Ripoff fight Nintendo's Sleep Obsessed Champion.
Balrog is one of the four "Devas" of Shadaloo, an evil organazation with a Crazy Bullfighter, a Revenge Seeking and Murderous Muay-Thai Fighter, and a Dicator that spins in the air with Purple Fire circling him. Together, they organize tournaments with the intent of kicking everyone's ass.
Mr. Sandman is the Champion of the World Video Boxing Association, a boxing league full of fighters that probably shouldn't be boxing anyway with people of every skill level from barely alive to completley perfect.
Although there is an obvious level in skill since Balrog is from a fighting game, and fighting Sandman is more about dodge and react, we'll just say Gunjin Rules and get started.
1. Location
Since Mr. Sandman has never tried to punch Little Mac's lights out in the streets, and Balrog isn't a robot of some kind, we can assume this fight will happen in the ring. Since the WVBA has recently loosened up on the rules to the point that you can use a third Boxing Glove as a weapon, Balrog would be right at home, assuming he doesn't attack Mr. Sandman with a chair.
Advantage: Draw
2. Powers
Neither of the characters have anything too special. Balrog has exceptional strength, at least enough to break a brick wall, and punch a punching bag off its chains in one or two punches. On top of this, he can force himself forward with his attacks, which could give him a bit of an advantage if he can push Mr. Sandman into the ropes.
Mr. Sandman however, has shown he isn't anything to sneeze at. He can destroy a run down building, and can do a jab so fast, you can barely see it (although, this is purely in Title Defense Mode). He also has the psychological advantage, always talking about sleep and faking his opponent with his most powerful move, the Dreamland Express.
Mr. Sandman just barely wins this one.
Advantage: Mr. Sandman
3. Experiances
Balrog has fought with the best and worst of the Street Fighter world. Even though the story is implied, you can't deny that the amount of fighters in the many styles they have have given Balrog alot of experiance.
Mr. Sandman on the other hand has faced every boxer in the WVBA and won with barely a scratch. Granted, they all have glaring weaknesses and telegraph thier punches 50% of the time.
So, Balrog is the clear choice, even with Sandman's knowledge of boxing.
Advangtage: Balrog
4. Friends
Balrog doesn't have friends so much as he has acquaintences. Vega, Sagat, and M. Bison would rather wait thier turn then help Balrog when he's about to be creamed by a burning Fireball.
Mr. Sandman however, has noone. We can assume he has a trainer, and a manager but neither of them are really seen, so we can just as easily assume Sandman does everything himself.
This category seems to be more about losing. Balrog just loses less.
Advantage: Balrog
5. Current Enemies
Balrog not only has to compete with every good guy and non-Shadaloo bad guys, but he also has to watch Shadaloo itself. Any one of "Devas" could persue thier own agenda by trying to tear a hole through Balrog. The fact that Balrog isn't already a rotting bag of organs proves his worth.
In Comparison, Mr. Sandman has it easy, only having to fight one opponent at a time. His only real challenge is the one man to beat him, Little Mac. An underdog that beat the odds and pounded Mr. Sandman's face in. Although, Super Macho Man may be his other Rival to an extent, since they switch places all the time.
So, Balrog wins this category.
Advantage: Balrog
Winner: Balrog: 4-2
Balrog wins the Statistical Argument, but this only gets you so far, especially in a real boxing match.
----------------------------------------------------
Story (Many Narrative elements have been removed for the fight's sake.)
The WVBA has introduced a Rookie Night. The first person to last one 3 minute round with the champ will earn 500 dollars. The Stadium is packed as the announcer introduces Mr. Sandman, who perpetuates his Sandman persona saying things like "I'm sending these punks to bed early". When the first challenger, a balding man who almost looked like an 80-year old Glass Joe gets curbed stomped, a big man punches out one of announcers.
This man, Balrog, then proceeds to smack talk the Champ, calling him a wimp, and that he'll "bite his ear off". Mr. Sandman demands that the loudmouth get in the ring for "his bedtime story", which Balrog is too happy to oblige.
The Bell rings as Balrog immeadialey starts throwing jabs at Mr. Sandman. Sandman blocks most of them, but about three hit him in the face. Mr. Sandman, having enough of this, backs up and tries to freak out Balrog. Balrog calls the "Boo"s and attempts to headbutt the WVBA Champ. Mr. Sandman does 2 uppercuts into Balrog's face, barely missing the 3rd hit in his "Dreamland Express". Balrog quickly regains composure and attempts to elbow Sandman in the chin. Mr. Sandman blocks, then Balrog jabs Mr. Sandman a few times in the stomach. Mr. Sand man jumps to the left and pounds Balrog's head with a downward punch.
Balrog goes down for 4 seconds before getting back up. Then Balrog quickly rams his fist into Mr. Sandman's stomach, sending him straight to the mat. Mr. Sandman gets up on 6, and attempts to hit Balrog with a right jab. Balrog jumps back and tries to throw another straight punch. Mr. Sandman ducks and gives Balrog an uppercut to the face. Balrog retaliates with his own uppercut, hitting Sandman in the jaw. Sandman backs up again, trying to psyche Balrog out again. Balrog not only doesn't fall for it, he gives a straight punch to Sandman's face. Furious, Mr. Sandman grabs Balrog's head and attempts to give him a straight punch.
Then the bell rings. The Referee breaks them off, and declares Balrog the winner of the money. Balrog grimaces as he takes the money and takes a picture with the champ. Then, Sandman states that if they had gone to Round 2, he would have won. Balrog laughs and says that he'll accept a real fight anytime. They shake hands and part ways.
-------------------------------------------
Well, unless I feel like sending Balrog through the WVBA this is the most likely senario. Take how you think the fight would go from here is you wish.
Fight 2 is done. If you know what you want for fight 3, leave a comment. Until then, adios.
