The Legend of Not Megaman and Not Roll
So, I was on Youtube, looking at videos of a Bipedal Fish vomiting Explosive Eggs, Some Guy killing his Receptionist Over a Mirror, and 4 Teenagers getting killed by a Giant Turtle, when THIS popped up. A Video chronicling the crimes of Capcom and how they "betrayed" the community. The Mob was gathering with the nooses around their own necks, thinking that if they yell loud enough and flail hard enough, they'll get what the mean ol' corporation didn't give them.
It's eerily similar to Sega's predicament, which I hate about as much as this one. Sega's basically trying to pander to this whining fan-base that will never be happy until Sega becomes a shell of its former self, which pisses me off to no end. Granted, any feedback should be taken and acknowledged, but if the fans are going to act indignant at every turn then why bother giving them a product that they will reject?
Here are a few arguments I've heard and why they're dumb.
1. "Capcom doesn't want money!"
Yes, Yes, I've heard that MML3 would have sold 300,000 to 500,000 copies and easily make a profit. But what people tend to forget that before all of this happened, the remaining creator of Megaman, Inafking, left Capcom, which left all the products he was spearheading blowing in the wind. It may not explain why Capcom cancelled Megaman Universe (It could be that they had no real faith in the final product, or thought it wouldn't compete with LittleBigPlanet 2 or something), but Inafuda was really pushing Megaman Legends 3. Once he left, there was no one who filled that gap, and even with the demo, they possibly felt that they couldn't make a good game with what they had that could hold up to anyone's standards. Also, that demo had a distinct lack of actual Megaman in it I found. Coincidence? :/
[Edit: Apparently, Inafking left BEFORE the game was canceled, but it wasn't announced until he had left. Thanks Capcom, for making me look dumb.
)
2. "Capcom doesn't care about Megaman."
Not at all. If they didn't care, I'm sure there'd be more news about it (unless the ENTIRE company thinks the same thing in all branches everywhere.) Realize that we were getting flooded with Megaman games, and people had thought that it was overkill. It's entirely possible that the canceled games were unrelated and a lack of new Megaman Characters in UMVC3 is just because they didn't think putting him in was a good idea. Megaman was not the most remembered character in the series from what I remember, so maybe they just decided not to include him because they knew that there was no good way to put him in. I, for one, welcome this Megaman Break, and there is no reason to freak out just because there's no Megaman this Christmas. Now if a YEAR passes and there's absolutely nothing on the horizon, THEN you can start to flip out and point fingers.
3. "Capcom only wants to make money on Fighting Games and making people pay full price for Expansions"
And I guess the game "Asura Wrath" doesn't exist/ is a fighting game too. Just because a game got canceled doesn't mean you can make grand assumptions. UMVC3 is almost done. Why cancel another game to add people to that game? Also, I doubt any of Capcom's other games are in trouble or they would've been canceled too. So, yeah. Incorrect and misinformed.
4. "Let's all Boycott Capcom!"
NO.
NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.
That is a bad idea, and for trying to get others to take this idea, you are equally bad.
Let me compare another situation: Chrono Trigger. After Chrono Cross, this series was dead in the water. Then Chrono Trigger comes out for the DS, with more features and tweaked dialouge. It doesn't sell to well, and In a topic ON THIS VERY FORUM, posters say that they WON'T BUY THE GAME BECAUSE IT'S NOT ENOUGH LIKE THE SNES GAME.
IT WAS YOUR CHANCE TO SHOW SQUARE ENIX THAT YOU CARE ABOUT THIS SERIES AND WANT TO SEE MORE AND YOU WALK AWAY FROM IT.
Do you want to miss the chance to show Capcom that you care about this game? Then go ahead, boycott them. Unless you can make them lose a bigger profit that isn't going to be recovered by newcomers buying their new product, this Boycott is going to explode in your face and suddenly they don't care what you think anymore.
Also, See Left 4 Dead 2 as an example as to why Boycotts don't work.
So, what should we do about this?
Nothing.
Do nothing different from what you did in the past. Buy games you want and don't buy games you don't want. Capcom has listened to their fanbase a hell of a lot more than any other company I've heard of. They added Ibuki, Dudley and Makoto to Street Fighter 4 when people asked for it, so I have to say that they most certainly don't hate you. Let them know (and not be an ass about it)! Let Capcom know that you WANT this game and that you WILL buy it. It may not satisfy your thirst for vengeance, but it'll look better for you compared to passing up a Megaman Legends re-release because you have your head up your ass. The Facebook group is a good idea. Sneering at Capcom and telling everyone not to buy their products will only make you look bad when the game never comes out.
Take a hint from the Earthbound Fanbase. Don't hate the company, do what you can to show them that MML 3 is a good idea. At least that way you won't look as completely retarded as the Sonic Fanbase, and their need to have Robotnik, Mobius, and Jaleel White. Urgh. Also, ending comment about mobs and nooses I guess.

| | Let me just say that I am NOT against Megaman Legends 3. If it does get restarted, than I will be happy, as I enjoyed both games. I don't like the general reactions. This just comes from a generation that's never been let down taken over by mob mentality. |

| | Boycotting Capcom is nothing like boycotting Valve. Left 4 Dead 2, while announced only so shortly after the first L4D came out, at least fulfilled being original. Most fans were upset because Valve had promised free DLC to the original game. What happened with Capcom, however, is much worse. Instead of Legends 3, instead of Universe, we get this horrible port of Mega Man X. This was a beloved classic, and it's been given horrible graphics, horrible animation, unnecessary screen scrolling, a dumbed down difficulty when the original wasn't that difficult to begin with, and worst of all, taking features that were a core part of the gameplay and turning it into DLC. It's one thing to charge money for a rehashed game. It's another to completely insult the fanbase. |

| | What MMX port are you talking about? Maverick Hunter X? That hardly seems relevant to anything in recent events. |
