Hideki Kamiya Would Like To Revisit Viewtiful Joe

Quote:
Platinum Games founder Hideki Kamiya has created some of the best-known IPs in gaming, including Devil May Cry, Okami, and Viewtiful Joe. He's moved on though, leaving the rights to all of them in Capcom's hands.

Capcom has since gone on to make sequels to Devil May Cry and Okami. Kamiya said he would love to do the sequels himself, but he also said there's "no point."

"Up until very recently I really felt someday I wanted to make a sequel to Okami, and there were others who wanted me to as well. But then the other day I heard the announcement that someone else would be making a sequel and now I'm just not interested in it anymore," Kamiya told Game Informer.

"Once someone else touches a world that you yourself created it stops being yours. There is no point in making a sequel when the world doesn't belong to you. Viewtiful Joe is probably all I've got left. That story is incomplete so I'd like to finish it someday. But that would probably be the most difficult one to do [laughs]."

Viewtiful Joe was moderately successful in its time, spawning Nintendo DS and PlayStation Portable versions as well as an anime adaptation. The series has been in mothballs since 2006 though, with Joe only popping up to make an appearance for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars. Capcom producer Jun Takeuchi has said that there are currently no plans to continue the series.
I haven't played any of those games yet. I need to.
