As such, the background and Fred came from Jay's site. I modified the Metal Man sprite myself, though the basic Metal Man sprite, the feather from SMW, and the Protoman scarf came from Sprites Inc, Shyguy Kingdom, and Sprites Inc respectively. I've already talked with Jay about comix before, so don't assume I intend to steal his ideas. Now then! The comix. ![]() |

The shoes part was quite bad... they were multicolored and he's still wearing shoes even after he threw 4 of them at Fred. But then again there were parts that weren't bad, like "Nothing bad has ever happened after eating tacos!" and the sign falling down. It's not NC quality... well, not the kind of quality we have now. Maybe back when. But even then, this one was kinda short while Jay's were longer and really gave you your.... deathmatches... worth. You know what I mean. Edit: Well, some of them, anyway. Ones like Kamek vs. Magus were pretty sucky. [ July 27, 2005, 11:41 PM: Message edited by: Glyph Phoenix ] |

Like better fire, gore, jokes, etc; I can see that I've managed to hit a threshold where, with some help, I could do something that actually was a full on comic, although a simple and small one. Teach me! I mean, Jay pretty much started out and did everything on his own, but my ability is like that only with computer-related stuff. Artistic things, I require information from other people. |

But Photoshop just makes things go along faster, since you can use layers and things. See if you can use Limewire or something to get it. (Just make sure you don't get a virus instead!) But that's just a helper. As you have seen, you don't need Photoshop to be funny. Well, if you're making deathmatches I guess that's not such a bad place to start out. They're simple and any mistakes you make should be easily caught, so I'll start with giving you some tips on those. </font>

I mean...look at my first Deathmatch. Yoshi vs Kirby? What the heck was that? And yeah, I don't know what I was smoking with the whole Wart vs Ripley thing.-jay |

Just that technical difficulties (cough accidentally saving over previous frames cough) caused me to neglect it. I think there's photoshop laying around somewhere this house, although paint.net can also do a variety of things. However, I didna realize that a good portion of a deathmatch's funniness was that it had ridiculous matchups. I'll experiment with these suggestions for the next comic. |

Even contemplating something like "nobody will notice if I use the wrong 'too'" is a bit much for him. You can try and change the character all you like in your own comic ... but if you're not going to make Mario the muffin-loving, poodle-buttering, rock and oxygen fighting idiot that he is don't make a deathmatch. I guess having him talk in third person at the beginning was okay, it sounded like him. And that is saying nothing of the other junk you did. The PWNTzooka sucks. It's not funny. If you're going to do a ripoff of the Deathzooka the least you could have done is did the thing where Jay crosses out existing words and writes something else (in your case, PWNT). It may seem lazy, but it sets the tone for future laziness and it's kinda poking fun at how sprites rip each other off and just wacky in general. And cursing? Gah. Nobody curses in NC because it's not funny and it's not appropriate. I guess there's an occasional word here or there, but it's never anything big and they're always spaced out, unlike this crapfest here. Having the text outside the box was a mistake for Jay, and you had to make it even worse by putting it in the image... which really sucks. Clever splitting of the image would have eliminated the need for that. Now, on the other hand, "In what we can only assume is a running animation" was a pretty good line. Well, what do you know. That appears to be just about the only good thing about this deathmatch. |

Gender: Posts: 1,294 Thanks: 21 Thanked 8 Times in 4 Posts | It's funny that you complained about Mario's personality, because that was all about Non-NC Mario complaining about the image NC has given him, so your complaint sorta proves his argument right. The rest was just a parody of the sad state deathmatches are in right now. The other stuff...like the frames not being split...yup that was laziness. Oh well. NC is a comic, and Mario is a character. He is a very stupid character. If you want to make a comic where Mario is a very smart character, you are free to do so. But if you're going to make something NC related, Mario would have to be stupid, because the Mario of NC is as dull as a sack of hammers. And if that was supposed to be a parody you fail at that too. It wasn't clear, and we've already got enough crap comics around here without people adding more crap comics just for the sake of making fun of crap comics. |

Gender: Posts: 1,294 Thanks: 21 Thanked 8 Times in 4 Posts | What I was referring to was your statement about the match not clearly being a parody. It seemed to me that Mario being out of character(along with the comments he makes), the use of such a lame opponent (that they never actually mention by name), the lame battleground, and the announcer's comments [about Mario getting so much screentime, the Deathmatches being lame lately, and the fact that deathmatches are so scarce], should all make it obvious enough that the match is not to be taken seriously. Also, it would not be much of a parody if I had changed the style so as to not mimmick NC. In fact, if I HAD made own style, this match WOULD have sucked. There was no real fighting. Just an exchange of dialogue and a slapstick ending. If you don't think the things I poke fun at are founded in truth, then look at the last deathmatch. The last real deathmatch was three years ago. After that, we got an April fools joke about 2 noobs, an NC short about 2 sacks of potatoes, and a cameo scene in NC/SSS crossover mach 2 about Mario and a rock. The Deathmatch section of the site has truly gone downhill and my comments about it are perfectly well-founded. So that fact remains that everything DID go over your head, because you failed to notice what I had actually intended to express. Whethor that be my fault or your own does not really matter, and there is no point in getting emotional about it. But since you focus much of your attention on the "pwntzooka"(which could have been any weapon and the point of the comix would still remain the the same) and the fact that Mario should be talking about muffins(which I admit is funny in a normal NC context), I am left assuming that you missed what the actual joke was supposed to be. Also, the reason I put it in this topic is due to the fact that, in short, this comix was made in response to the match at the beginning of this thread. Or at least, it was inspired by it, although it parodies the "Deathmatch" in general. [ August 07, 2005, 12:35 AM: Message edited by: Alph ] |

And we've seen such filth that it's impossible to compare honest attempts with stuff so bad it's a joke. While deathmatches are often crappy they are good learning tools; they are simple and yet when done right they can be funny and entertaining. Also, you need a new thread. This one is Metal Man's.
