| Senior Member | yay! Cool Portraits... But... It's kind of weird that the shadow covers half the face (You can determine who the person is, so don't have a cow over it) And your drawings are really cool Waits for more! |

Minus the shadow! Heavy on the anime style I'm now going for! (I did the outline, but Irvine colored it) An animation of a friend of mine on Pixeltendo JoshR doing his victory pose, Stahn Aileron style! Single handedly the hardest thing I've ever done. The furthest BG was ripped from ToP, but everything else was painstakingly done by me. Here's a mock up screenshot! |

O-Di-O from Live-A-Live. Blaze the Cat in a slightly different costume. Another mock up screen shot. Fox and Krystal in traditional Japanese wear. Kid's Pilfer technique. Um, no criticism? No... Glyph? Hm... oh, well. Anyway, I've finally gotten a few people to help me with this game! And even (gasp) a PROGRAMMER! He's programming a demo for the battle system right now and claims that we will have a demo in 2 weeks or more! |

Your proportions are done right. The characters are a little chibilike, but that's not a fault at all. No complaints. Depending on how it is programmed, the puddle should turn out quite well. The edges should be shaded to give it a softer look. A transparent blue tone over the puddle would make it look even better, but I can understand how graphical limitations could prevent that. Menu screens shaded, shaded again. No complaints. Whispy Woods given depth with advanced woodlike shading, slightly darkened vines, and blotched leaves. No complaints. In the sketches the proportions seem right. Works well. No complaints. Blaze's chest is oddly shaded. Please fix. Kid's face looks a bit off. Perhaps should be lightened slightly. So basically, in all of am few minutes, you can round up and eliminate anything I could find that even resembles a graphical error. And your sprites are much better looking than ToP's. You win, and you do it with an S Rank. Better than the sprites in Cave Story or Eternal Daughter, and definately better than any graphic I have ever done in my entire life. I don't think I can ask for more. ...but I will anyway. Remember two things: 1. Programming can make or break the graphics. Choppy animated characters can look poor, even drawn as well as these. Slowdown and glitches can destroy perfectly good scenes as well. 2. Graphics always, always take a backseat to gameplay. Now, as you start on your gamebuilding journey, you have a major edge. These graphics are truly excellent. But it only gets harder from here. Your graphics are so good that even if the game never makes it out of production you'd have a huge following. That is, if there was anyone around here anymore... You should probably post your sprites in a more active forum. |

Yes, programming can be difficult and could probably break me, but I at least hope I can put up with it (I shouldn't be TOO bothered since I've been writing and planning this thing for 11 years). These and MANY more things have already been posted at Pixeltendo (an active spriter's forum). I posted them here just in case anyone was wondering what I had been up to. I hope you guys do well in all you do. If anyone still wishes for me to post anything more, they only need say so. EDIT: Anyway, you guys have already made ending credits. ![]() [ January 07, 2006, 05:10 PM: Message edited by: Smithy GCN ] |

(I'm still trying to figure out what program makes images semitransparent so I can fix the water). |

You need to lighten the colors up quite a bit. If you, for whatever reason, want Kracko to be darker (like for, say, a special attack) you should still use a far more gradual shading to create a cloudlike effect. As it is he looks quite bad. And to add onto that, I don't think he'd look right next to one of your fighters. You should make him smaller and try to make it look like he's at a bit of an angle. You should also try to give Kracko some depth... make a few ridges or whatnot to make him look more fluffy, more cloudlike. Kracko looked fine when he was up against the equally colorful and equally cartoonish Kirby, but side by side with your characters he should have the same detail they do. |

I guess I shouldn't have based his sprite on the sprite from Kirby Super Star then. Oh, and, uh,... thanks for referring to Photoshop. I appreciate it. | Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Gender: Posts: 1,774 Thanks: 2 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post | Well, REDJ, seeing as how the background is from Tales of Phantasia, the menus look like Tales of Phantasia, and SmithyGCN's pretty much professed that he's a die-hard Tales fan, I'm going to have to say the gameplay's going to be like... Tales of Phantasia? Smithy, you don't have to thank me every time I say something. My posts are far less insightful then they are irritable, rambling, and generally angry. I think a totally new Kracko would be a good idea, yes. Also, the only reason I brought up Photoshop is because it's the only halfdecent image editor besides Paint I know and I was going to suggest you Limewire yourself a copy, but then I decided that I had committed enough crimes that day. |

Well, I thought it was just the decent thing to do, but if you don't want me to thank you as often then that's okay, sorry. Yeah, I am somewhat of a Tales of Nerd. The battle system is somewhat different due to there being 3 (not 1) lanes to run on in battle and by switching out which lane that you're on can slightly alter your stats. Also, which game your character is from can either give your character a trump or fault depending on which item he's using. Also, the first strike implement has your characters and enemies on opposite ends of the battlefield. Wherever your lead character's from determines the attack that they unleash upon their foes. Anyway, I've done some more stuff in case you guys want it: Molgera from Wind Waker. Tonberry animation. Overworld sprites of Raem from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (sorry, Gimpy. I know you don't like FFCC) Not as impressive as I'd like, but it serves a purpose. Rob. Well, not a playable character, but is a part of the Trophy collection. Bill Gray. Fox's overworld sprites. Lavos Tyrant's main body... animated (was originally done as an entry in a spriter's duel which was cancelled at the last second by my opponent...) EDIT: Just so you know, the smoke is ripped from TotWND3 for the GBA. I was using it to remind me what to use when he comes out of the ground. WITH Kid. And Geno, looking better than he ever did in SMRPG, just used Geno Blast. Even the graphic that the words "Geno Blast" are situated on looks impressive. The rest of the battle is not just impressive. It's amazing. Bill Gray's pose is a little weird. It doesn't look like he's really holding that gun. Besides that, it's the usual awesome. Molgera? Pwn. Raem? Double Pwn. Geno? Pwn, pwn, pwn. I am the kind of person who does not give 10/10s out for things. Even my favorite games like Paper Mario wouldn't get a 10/10. But purely based on graphics, I would not feel right giving these sprites less. [ January 12, 2006, 06:47 PM: Message edited by: Glyph Phoenix eats at Diner Mo's ] |

I was going for the "laid-back and care-free" look that I always took Bill for, but somehow it came out looking like he's taunting the enemy. Also, he was supposed to have his finger in the trigger hole, but I guess I messed up there to. (My brother looked over my shoulder while I was doing this animation and he asked me who the zombie was... I hope that's not what he looks like). What I meant by not as impressive is because I had all these attack effects that I wanted to use, but since this is an older screen mock up, I didn't know how to get the transparency I needed to make them look neat. (There's supposed to be a slash mark where Link struck Lavos and there are supposed to be electrical rings around Geno as he powers up). Yeah, I may be overly critical of my work. ^^; That's Miyu and her text portrait. Um, is there anything I should fix? This is the Trophy Window in the Menu. An overworld version of Kracko's room I put together with a tileset I made. In fact, I should post that too. The promised tileset. Concept art of Blaze (I inked it and got rid of any of the sketchy lines in the penciled version). Concept art of Mewtwo. [ January 12, 2006, 08:02 PM: Message edited by: Smithy GCN ] |

I think Miyu's head is disproportional: Her eyes and mouth should take up more space to balance out her rather large forehead. I don't know if I can say many more good things about your graphics. If I listed them all I'd be here all day. Great castle tileset and dithering? Yes. Excellent detailed concept art? Yes. There are usually TEAMS who do this kind of work. Instead of, y'know, you. In fact, comparing your art to some of the other games I know of, yours beats it. One example would be Tales of Phantasia. You even made a little mockup of the trophy screen. Nobody does that. Not even I do it for my projects, and when I choose a project I will be pretty dedicated to it. I could stop telling you that your stuff is good, but that would be dishonest. I once wrote that the Third Law of Awesome is that something bad deserves the amount of bashing equal to the amount of crap in it, multiplied if the creator just doesn't get it. And that law works inversely. Following that law, I cannot leave this topic without mentioning exactly how great this stuff is. And you're producing it really quickly, too. It's like you're some sort of spriting robot making all other spriters obsolete and making unemployment rates skyrocket. See, I just couldn't end this post without a morbid comment.... |

I can't sprite that well (probably due to a short attention span), and I can draw better than I can sprite. How long does it take you to make those sprites? and What are you going to do with your game when you finish you finish it? |

I do other stuff. I DO have a job after all and... well I could probably go on and on about this, but it won't change anything. I just have a habit of sticking with something til the end. To a fault, I suppose. I have this weird ability to do anything I am assigned or set myself to very quickly. I find what it is I want to do and then I just pour whatever image is on my mind onto a sheet of paper or a computer screen. I can't really explain it. I, um, shade women's chests like that because, well, I'm a sort of a pervert... but not to the point where I'd talk about sex all the time or draw nude pictures and stuff. I just like to look at good looking girls is all. And I am a guy, so that should explain it some... As for what I'm going to do when the game's finished? A few additional projects come to mind such as a Fire Emblem style game of sorts. I finished the Tonberry sheet, but I'll upload it later, I think.
