I was going for a darker atmosphere in my game, but I guess you could be right about that. Thanks. EDIT: I'll let you use them if you want to. If it is, Respect Points +4 because Gunstar Heroes is the shiznit. If not, Respect Points +3. Anyway, the darkness isn't bad except for certain characters who just aren't that dark in their continuities. Gnome is rather comedic. Those Sonic characters look a bit out of place in a darker setting. Falco has bluer feathers. The only one that really, really looks in place is Ganondorf, and that hooded figure. The rest I either can't identify or I know to be in rather light-hearted games. |

Soma (I'm guessing that's Soma Cruz there) has shading and shape that's far too soft. Green-haired thing on the end has shading that doesn't fit in, especially with only two shades on the hair. Compare it with the third dude from the left, who I recognize but forgot. If you'll excuse me, I gotta be back later. I'll help more then. |

| Junior Member Join Date: Nov 2005 Location: Ymir Forest Posts: 302 Thanks: 1 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts | The characters listed are: Blaze the Cat (Sonic Rush) Soma Cruz (Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow) Cless Alvien (Tales of Phantasia) Carbuncle (Final Fantasy series) Deathtoll (Soul Blazer) Ganondorf Dragmire (Zelda series) Amy Rose (Sonic series) Tails (Sonic series) Miyu Yamaneko (Star Fox 2 - unreleased) Falco Lombardi (Star Fox series) Gnome (Tales series) Luna (Tales series) Glyph likes Gunstar Heroes? Cool. I guess I should've done those guys right about now. Yeah, I was kind of disappointed as to how some of them looked myself. Luna's hair especially looks odd. I should redo it. I actually assumed that Ganondorf wouldn't have turned out too well and I had doubts about how I did Falco. As for the darkness... I guess I was going more toward a Killer7 look to it and my game's story isn't at all happy and cheerful. I guess they do look kind of out of place, though. |

But if you're going to use Sonic or Starfox or Zelda characters, y'know, that's not going to work out so well. And your Cless profile looks like Gunstar Red even moreso than Cless. I thought Cless's headband was green. And Cless is younger, wouldn't have such sharp features. Deathtoll's first form works, I guess, but he's just not Deathtoll unless he's got lasers for hands. And horns. Good for plot profile sequences, but when you fight him he better be in all his screen-filling splendor. Soma Cruz looks like he aged about 25 years. He's all eyebrow now. |

However, I DID fix the Soma, Luna, and Falco portraits and I added a Gunstar Red face, but photobucket is acting up and won't let me load them! ARRRRGGG... Well, anyway, Cless's bandanna was red in the official art that I was looking at. Hmmm... yeah, I guess his face is too sharp for his age. I've already mended Soma's eyebrow problem. (He actually has an eye now). Deathtoll in his giant form? I guess that could work. I already have his cloaked figure version finished, but I guess his other screen-filling form added to it wouldn't hurt. I guess I could lighten the other side of the characters faces for the heroes. The added shadows do seem to convey a more villainous look... |

The only critique I have is that the silhouette effect you have on some of them is a little too far over to tell what their faces are supposed to look like. Cut down on the dramatic shadow just a little, and it should be perfect. And of course it looks dark, the game is dark, and you don't want your spriting to clash just because these characters have been in different games before. ![]() |

Yes, lighten them. If you have to put in characters that never belonged, at least make them look somewhat like they are supposed to be. In order to make them fit, you'll probably have to lighten ones like Deathtoll and Ganon, which is fine since I think they'll look even better a bit lighter anyway. Again, though, strictly avoiding character issues and stuff like Soma's eyebrows they're really quite good looking. It let's me know if people appreciate my work or not and where it is I need to improve. However, my game isn't dark to the point where there is death every five seconds. It's dark as in: supernatural themes, blood and violence, a complex (seriously, a complex story is necessary for an immense cross-over like this one, however, it should still be understandable by the players). Thank you, Glyph and LvK, for your help. I will lighten the shadows on many of the characters, but probably not on the evil characters. I hope to post more sprites in the future. |

Okay, a little break from sprites and am posting official art. You are free to say anything about it: I had two more, but they were too big and would've caused problems... |

If you removed the Sonic characters, the anthropomorphism, and the way you tried to give that last one a Lloyd Irving look, I would likely be saluting you too. They are excellent drawings. But whatever you make is seriously crippled by these characters. They can't grow or change or die or have out of character moments because they aren't yours. Making a character do any of those things would be seriously stupid. Even if you made a game so good Doukutsu Monogatari pales in comparison (not that it's humanly possible), I'd never be able to play through parts with these characters without thinking "What a nightmare. The designer never should have put these characters who don't belong into the story." [ December 15, 2005, 02:50 AM: Message edited by: Glyph Phoenix: The Modren Man? ] |
