Question PC reinstallation?

I recently had to reinstall my computer due to an extremely fatal computer virus, and i would like to know if that made me lose a little of my memory space, I originally had 3terabytes total and i would also like to know how big of a hit was made to my memory space if any was lost.

I'm skeptical that you actually have three terabytes, considering that the largest commercial hard drives have one terabyte and your awkward use of the phrase "reinstall my computer".

Anyways, if you did a format and install, you should have all of your hard disk space back. I assume you're running Windows XP, in which case if the hard drive is larger than a certain size, some of it may not be partitioned during the install. If you're talking about RAM, that's something that's always around; you can't get rid of it without physically removing the chips from your motherboard.

Alienware, huh? You must be loaded. What model do you have?

Anyways, as far as I know, a mere software glitch won't destroy sectors of hard drive space; you can always reclaim it.

I'm 90 percent sure that if you can reformat your computer that you will have not lost any space. God damn you have 3 terabytes? That's insane. Why would you even worry about losing a little bit of space with that and what does your computer look like!!??? I would love to see a picture...actually I'd hate to say this but "Pics or it didn't happen".

If you reformatted it, you shouldn't have lost memory. I suppose it's possible that on such a large amount of memory (seriously wtf would you do with 3 terrabytes, write the next pixar film? 0_0) XP might have partitioned it. To actually lose the memory, it would have to glitch and basically "lose" a partition (ie: refuse to acknowledge it). It might do that because the leftover partition was an unusual or pointlessly miniscule size, but that wouldn't be any effect on your general HD usage.

Strange since the high end Alienware model only goes up to 2TB via RAID 0.

Do you mean gigabytes of RAM, perhaps?
