I've never actually played Doom 3, I've just heard a lot of negative comments about it.

What made it so terrible?

dark

(its not terrible, its actually a pretty good game, but its absolutely nothing like doom at all. also it has some really annoying design in some parts: such as their approach to light (none of it))

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. That's nifty, Doom 4 is supposedly going to take place on Earth.

Actually, I have no idea where my friend got that from, I'll have to ask him his source.

If you truly believe that, you don't know anything about Doom. Nearly EVERY enemy that appeared in the original Doom appears in Doom 3, which was more a retelling of the first game than a true sequel.

ah yes, because the enemys being the same in name and occasionally design = identical.

the level design is different, the way enemys are used is diffirent, many of the enemys are different despite looking similar, the gameplay is entirely diffirent. The entire game is designed completely diffirently; its more along the lines of halo then classic doom.

e: actually the guns aren't the same, silly me

So, you are are saying that Doom 3 should have used the used the "forklift" control scheme used back in 1995. Heck, if you play the original Doom of X-Box Live Arcade, they reconfigured the controls to make it a bit more modern.

Most negative D3 comments come from fans of the original duogy who were disappointed about the game's little resemblence to the original games.

On its own, though, it's a pretty good game, though not without flaw.

Well, actually it was. Correction: I didn't like that they called it Pinky.

But I really hated Cacodemon.
