Bethesda Has 'No Plans' For Elder Scrolls V

Bethesda Has 'No Plans' For Elder Scrolls V

Quote:
Bethesda is officially done with Fallout 3 -- Mothership Zeta was the final downloadable episode for the post-apocalyptic RPG. So that means that they're switching back to the Elder Scrolls now, right? Maybe not.
"We are working on our next big game but we are not talking about it," Bethesda game director Todd Howard said during his QuakeCon 2009 keynote (via the Big Download).

But that game is not Elder Scrolls V. Howard said that there are "no current plans" for another game in that series.

So right now, it's hard to say what Bethesda's next project will be. Who knows, we may actually be in for an entirely new IP. Or we might be in for an Elder Scrolls MMO, of which Howard jokingly said "there's always a chance."

Life is just full of surprises.
Makes me wonder what their "next big game" is.

Wait, WHAT? What the hell?!! They outright said they were not going to make Fallout 4 until they made Elder Scrolls V. What the hell, Bethesda?

Well that sucks. TES is my favorite series of all time. Hopefully that means they're working on something equally awesome. I have to say Bethesda's earned my trust.

Either they decided to wait for the next generation, or they realized their stunning similarities to the D&D edition-whinefest whenever a new edition came out. (Did you know people actually weren't dry-humping Morrowind, like how people weren't blow-jobbing 3rd edition) So thus they either decided it wasn't worth it without a 5th edition for the trend to follow, or they just thought it was better to wait for a 5th installment.

Especially since there are 4 or 5 people who like Elder Scrolls for the sake of it being Elder Scrolls...like how there are maybe 4 or 5 D&D fans in existence who don't scorn the existence of another edition and demonize its fans.

^If you just insinuated that Morrowind was not the greatest game in the history of mankind then I must disagree.

If you've been here, you'll know that that's an exaggeration, but a very small one.

Course it is.

and I liked Daggerfall better than Morrowind. I made the mistake of listening to Morrowind's fans and let its hype backlash.

Uhh... but if you liked Daggerfall better... but you think Morrowind's the... *brain explodes*

I haven't played Daggerfall. But I like Morrowind more than Oblivion, even though Oblivion's technically better in nearly every way. Did you play Daggerfall first? I get the sense that the initial wave of wonder you have when playing your first Elder Scrolls game is a huge factor in determining which you like best. If you played Morrowind first then I just don't know, I can't compare the two myself.

I still liked Morrowind. :P I just felt the game was the equivalent to Final Fantasy VII...a good game but fans put it on such a high pedestal you'll create unrealistic expectations.

And did you know that there were actually people who said MORROWIND was dumbing the genre down and consolizing it before more people started dry-humping it? it's just like D&D!

I dunno. I had a hard time getting into Oblivion. Mostly due to the fact that I had played Fallout 3 first.

Well, I haven't played Oblivion, Arena, or Daggerfall. So I can't say if those are good or bad.

I will admit Morrowind was at least Beta tested unlike Daggerfall feels. I see civilians moonwalking, enemies getting stuck behind one pixel of corner/wall/doorframe, hit invisible walls, see enemies get stuck behind invisible walls, see enemies get stuck behind something on the ground, get meleed by someone with a dagger on the other side of the room, spike someone on the other side of the room....

Morrowind had more content.

Oblivion had better quest chains.

The article in the OP was formed from a misunderstanding or something taking out of context, because Bethesda has since said something along the lines of...

"Oblivion was massively popular, as was Morrowind. We are well aware of this and are not abandoning the Elder Scrolls series."

Bethesda also trademarked "Skyrim" last year. That also happens to be the name of the Nords' homeland.

Bleh, Solstheim (from Bloodmoon) was basically Skyrim Jr. I was hoping for Elsweyr or Black Marsh, maybe Summerset Isles. Those all seem more interesting. (For those who don't know, those are the homes of the Khajiit, Argonians, and High Elves respectively. And I have a particular soft spot for Khajiit.)

I was personally anticipating Summerset Isles, since there was so much talk of it in Oblivion.

Copyrighting Skyrim doesn't necessarily mean that the next game will be in Skyrim, though. It would certainly be an interesting setting if they pull it off well.

Tamriel Rebuilt is recreating Hammerfell the way the orginal Oblivion staff would have it if it were an official expansion. They've also released Stirk for Oblivion and some killer expansions for Morrowind. Check out their Hammerfell objects and map.

silgrad.com | oblivion.at is very much on par with that community as well and has been working vigorously on recreating mainland Morrowind for Oblivion.

Both modding communities are still going strong it would seem. Tamriel-rebuilt is apparently recreating the entire world it would seem as well. This is probably the next best thing if Bethesda is currently halting working on the Elder Scrolls Series.

Remember though that Bethesda is loyal to their fans. When their fans were upset that Fallout 3 actually "Ends" they released an expansion that lets you play after the end of the game.
