C'mon Kargath, this has become an Anti-Activision Topic. We're supposed to hate them for no real reason and find a way around their greediness. Because greed is bad. For video games. They industry should revolve around me.

Also, whoring it up.

I have heard nothing about this supposed plan to charge for BNET. There's no mention of it on the Blizzard site that I can find, and RPS has never posted a story about it either.
Blizz are intending to sell map packs, but Battle.net access is free for people who have purchased the game.
You might be getting yourself confused with the Korean pay-per-hour model designed for the baangs.

Also what are you doing trying to connect to Singapore? You'd be better off connecting to east/west coast US to test your speed to there.
I want a fast local speed to game on 2 systems in this house. Routing to US servers would be bad, and Blizzard has been unclear as to whether game data transfers are entirely p2p or they are handed off through their servers. Either way, I get over 200 PING to the US which is ****. There is a direct line to Asia from Perth, there is no reason beside perhaps cost not to route through it. Internode has rerouted through Perth to Asia. Being in Perth, I'd like to know why my connection gets assed up through Sydney all the way to Virginia of all places. Westcoast US I could almost understand. Virginia is eastcoast.

Actually, I agree that it sounds circumspect. I've just heard a lot of dissent around the net about stuff like that, perhaps it was a rumor or an idea that Blizzard canned. Here's a few news stories, although nothing that I've seen straight from Blizz themselves, but a lot of sites are claiming confirmation. There are supposed to be posts relevant to it on Blizzard's forums, but the server is down.

If that's supposed to criticize my reaction to this fiasco, would you be so kind as to answer these questions to help us verify the relevance of your opinion on the matter:

Did I mention, or did you think I mentioned Activision anywhere in this thread?
Did I, and did you believe me to say, anything about greediness?
Are you aware of how many copies of Blizzard titles I have been more than happy to purchase and play?
Have you been waiting for this game for over 10 years, like myself?
Did you, like myself, build a new gaming platform with the intent to play SC2 on LAN with your wife?
Were you around for the launch of StarCraft on the first Battle.net to experience how poor Blizzard's online services actually were?
Have you tried to play a recently-purchased Blizzard title since then, only to discover client-side routing support is absent, despite continued retail?
Have you been swamped with misleading information and rumors regarding the functionality of the software?
Do you live in the most secluded major city in the world, with no continental servers for the Battle.net functionality that Blizzard has guaranteed will more than make up for a lack of a rudimentary LAN function?
Do you have an ISP bandwidth cap?
Does your ISP route data tens of thousands of miles out of the way to avoid agreements with local competition?
Do you or have you ever attended LAN parties?
Have you ever competed in a professional gaming competition?
Have you ever maintained an ongoing and successful romantic relationship?
Have you ever attempted to sponsor a relative or friend to immigrate into the US?

^The heck...?

Maintained a romantic relationship? Helped someone immigrate to the US?

I am going to need your assistance in understanding the relevance of those particular questions.

Although, you earned thirty cool points for LAN play with the wife. ^^

I moved to Australia to be with my wife, as the US immigration laws are so steep I would have to prove an income around $30k or more for 3 years prior to be considered a suitable sponsor. Never mind that I was making that at the time, I was not 3 years in the job as I had been cut during layoffs at my previous employer, and it taking some effort to acquire a new position meant that I was out of the job too long to qualify. The US is one of the toughest countries to enter in the world, and people still think immigration laws are too slack, even though the immigration laws don't affect the amount of illegals in the country.

So I am not here because I had a lot of choices available. If I stayed in the US for another 3 years, alone, I would not have dealt with the stress well, and I likely would have lost my job as employment in Cleveland only got worse. If I'm going to be judged by someone for my reaction to this situation, I'd like the logical courtesy of a clear understanding.

I simply want to play this game with my wife. I don't care if there's an online solution, if I can't use it because of supposed pirates. The first StarCraft sold over 11 million copies, and it had LAN. It's easily in the top 5 bestselling PC series of all time.

Sent an email to Blizzard technical support asking how the server connection is integrated into gameplay, and if gameplay is handled peer to peer with a server connection maintained to upload data in the background (but not increasing latency between players). I think I mentioned lack of LAN as backstory to the inquiry.

Got some bull**** PR response about no LAN, which had nothing to do with the question.

Yeah. I once wanted to buy this, but then I realized it would fuel Bobby Kotick's anti-gamer screed, so I crossed it off the list.

There. Throw the rocks at me for hating Bobby Kotick. I'll gladly take the hit, if it lets me stab that evil man's reputation.
