Only take ONE weapon group and ONE armor as major or minor skills.

Alteration works better as enchantments than spells. Mysticism works better as spells than enchantments. Therefore, Mysticism is a better choice for Major/Minor skills.

Sword-mage >> Caster >>>>> Warrior. Unfortunately.

Increase your Endurance at every oppurtunity at low levels.

Luck is useful - but not required - to increase if you make a Custom Class. It'll get you better magic items.

If you have the Tribunal expansion, get to Mournhold as soon as possible. Search the town until you find a spellcaster with Fortify Skill. It's REALLY useful with Alchemy and Enchantments. This, of course, assumes you're a caster.

If you don't care about moving at .02 MPH, Speed is a useful dump stat.

Alchemy = really useful.

In Balmora and Pelagiad, you can loot the crates and urns outside the houses. It's actually quite useful. In the interior of Pelagiad, you can find some nice treasure, especially for Martial characters. Just so long as there are no guards nearby.

Read online FAQs! They're really useful.

Get: Almsivi Intervention, Mark, Recall. They'll save your life when you have hoards of loot that you can't lift.

Get ready for one of the most time-consuming times of your life. Start off obviously by doing the main quest up until your meet Caius, then depending on what you decide to become (stealth, strength, or magic) then join the appropriate guild. That'd help you level up enough so that you are appropriately prepared for the main quest.

The game was too much of a headache for me when I was trying to preserve people for other quests. Quest conflicts always bothered me with this game because when you may have to kill person A for Quest B, Person A may be essential for Quest C.

I suggest you never become a vampire as well.

Jailbreaker's pretty much on, although I'm not sure about Alteration/Mysticism. I personally put Alteration on every character I make. It's incredibly useful-- get Jump and Levitation as soon as you can. Make a 10 points/10 seconds Levitation spell (20 points/10 seconds is better at higher levels) and a 100 point/1 (or 2) second Jump spell when you can. They're your best friends. Also Water Walking is more useful than it is in Oblivion, since horrible creatures you won't want to deal with lurk underwater.

I'd also say take either Marksman or Destruction. You'll be glad to have a long-range option when cliff racers get themselves stuck in trees and prevent you from resting in the wilderness. Destruction is more reliable, of course, since ranged weapons can miss, but for non-spellcasters Marksman is useful.

Eh, I found the most useful "magic" trait was enchanting, mainly because you save a ton of gold from the Mage Guild and you can make some extremely interesting stuff (constant levitation boots for easier travel, armor with constant effects, etc). IIRC, you can get away without specializing in magic. It just makes it a pain in the ass to level up.

The last time I played through Morrowind was years ago, but I played as a custom class that basically combined a thief with a mage. I know i specialized in Enchant, mainly because it was a pain in the ass to train up otherwise. Stealth is extremely useful, especially if you have a set of glass armor with persistent chameleon enchanted on it. Once you get to a certain level, the backstab damage out of stealth will one-shot almost everything in the game. I also used archery extensively. Its a pain in the ass to start off, but once you get the skill high enough you can basically one-shot things from across the map. Destruction is extremely helpful. Security is beyond essential IMO. Being able to pick locks easily can help you get insane equipment relatively early.

And again, killing Vivec and backdooring the game is really entertaining if you're up for a challenge.

Never played the game myself, but I've heard that unless you turn the expansions off you'll get attacked by assassins whenever you sleep, and it's best to wait to turn those on.

They really aren't that hard to kill if you have Restore Health potions or a nice empty shack to run in to every time you get close to dying. I killed the first assassin at Level 1 like that.

Also, they rarely ever spawn (I got 4 total) and you can always just reload the autosave and sleep somewhere else if you're having trouble with one.

They're good sources of money actually, as long as you can deal with them. Their armor is pretty expensive, especially for low-level loot.

I never bothered with Enchant but I can imagine it'd be useful. Security is very useful, true (unlike Oblivion where it's a joke). Alteration does eventually make it irrelevant, but for most of the game lock-picking is important.

Mentioning enchanting, is there any system that determines the value/enchanting power of Soul Gems? It doesn't seem to reflect the difficulty of the captured enemy.

I mean. It vaguely does. All you need to know is to Soul Trap golden saints and ascended sleepers. Unique enemies might have better souls but they're the best regular enemies.

It may help you to know AI that female characters have a few extra quests in the house of Telvanni. I just remembered the feminist High Elf there.

As for which house you should choose depends on how you want to go. Redoran is typically the most honorable of the three houses and most in the Strength route go here, Hlaalu has a dark and evil tone due mostly because of the Dark Elves and greed so if you choose the stealth route then go here, and House of Telvanni is more or less that gray area but mostly for those who decide to go the magical route.

What kind of Character did you make AI and what are your major and minor skills?

I am a Sword Mage. I haven't joined any houses yet, just the fighter's guild.

Pff, Telvanni are way more evil than Hlaalu. Hlaalus are just greedy thief types. Telvannis are haughty wizards who don't give a **** about you or anyone else.

That said Telvanni is the coolest House by far. Hlaalu is second and Redoran is a very distant third. ...honestly Redoran kind of sucks, they give you bad directions and your quests aren't that interesting. However, as you might have noticed, advancement depends on skill levels, so if you don't have the appropriate magic skills (look them up) it's probably not worth joining Telvanni.

By the way I highly recommend the Imperial Cult. It starts slow but the final missions are some of the coolest in the game.

Sorry I can't really give any advice, I never really got very far in this game.
If I could find a copy I probably would, but all I really remember were a bunch of lulz with a Jesus-lizard joke that was made while my freind was playing. :/

Not very pleased with the Fighters Guild atm, since I don't like racist jerks and they have strong ties to the Camonna Tong, who apparently are all racist jerks. Anything less like petty bullying I can do with one of the other guilds? I don't see the point in beating people up for collection money, considering even as someone with zero security points I can make a crapload of money by thievery. That being said, I've already invested time in this character and I'm not interested in changing to a thief-type player with higher stealth and security. Do any of the guilds significantly help you level up faster, or are they all pretty much the same?
