Infinity Ward Responds To ‘Modern Warfare 2′ Petition » MTV Multiplayer

IW are defending the p2p setup like it's a good thing. Sounds like a failboat, imo.

Basically, they're doing that so they can control the content. IOW, force everyone to buy DLC maps instead of giving them away for free like they did with CoD 1-4. Or they just love the notion of host-lag kills.

Apparently they're cutting the max amount of players in a game down to 18 from the previous 32. Sounds like they're planning on making the games cross-platform compatible, but the PC is taking a big hit in doing so. Not worth it.

I think that's more of a P2P limitation than cross-platform. It would be nice to actually play cross-platform, but at this rate I'm expecting them to just kill the PC version altogether on MW3.

I think they don't realize that PC gamers are a bit more educated than the console players who are just looking for a new title on shelves already. I always thought of PC folks as a bit more educated than that, what with the steadily upgrading market, and so on. They must not consider PC money to be worth their time.

It gives them an excuse to stop developing for the PC at any rate. "Oh it didn't sell PC gaming mus be dead DERRR."

The main problem is piracy and how the PC gaming sector is so small. Infinity Ward probably looked at the tiny size of the market and thought "why should we develop separate networking technology for a tiny market segment that will only assist that market to rip us off?"

Instead of buying new titles...they continuously mod the old ones and then dry-hump them in some cases.

It sounds like Infinity Ward has no real idea what the PC community is like and Activision sees it as less money to spend.

I don't care about CoD, so I can't understand all this pain.

I'm just waiting for someone else to make a CoD similar game for PC and get all these now open people with dedicated servers, recording, etc.

Are you kidding? Gamers from those communities would pour the love on faithful sequels, in most instances. Doom III was not Doom III, man.

I don't care about CoD so much as I care about it setting a trend. I care about developers badmouthing a market that hasn't shrunk, simply because they can hypothetically pull big numbers on consoles. I care about developers giving fan communities the shaft. If they're not going to go the route of Blizzard and actually setup a front-end for the online community, they're basically leaving it for dead as a thank you to all of their fans.
