Since I should have a new PC running by next week, I wanted to try out some new games on it in the near future. I'm strapped for cash, and thought you folks could help me out. |

Bioshock 1, in my opinion is better than dead space. Dead Space is great but Bioshock has more to it than guns.It has the plasmids that affect the overall game. In Dead Space, it's just another shooter done right. But both have demos, so try them. My opinion is worth nothing. |

Dead Space is more generic, but the weapons and enemies are what set it apart from most. Also, it's kind of hard to compare the two. |

It, uh, draws a lot from System Shock 2. I've yet to play Dead Space, but I've he-wait a minute. I've never really "investigated" the game, strangely enough. Huh. Just as a note, Bioshock is lots of fun if you turn the Vita-Chambers off. edit: To elaborate, the game is still fun and great with vita-chambers. However, I found turning them off led to a better experience. Last edited by X-3; 05-19-2010 at 09:40 PM. |

Also, it's not a good idea to confront Big Daddies directly ever. On the easier difficulties, you can tank most of the enemies if you have enough health packs and find enough food lying around. |

There are things you can do to make your life easier (don't destroy robots, always hack them to be on your team) but really very little in the way of stealth and tactics. All enemies except two types tend to just charge you. You do need to plan out fights with Big Daddies, but even that just boils down to "I need to have everything reloaded and a piece of cover to strafe around" with Rosies and "I should lay a few prox mines first" with Bouncers. Later on in the game, you get a weapon that makes Big Daddy fights as simple as just walking up to them and holding down the trigger until you run out of ammo - and whilst you're firing they can't retaliate at all. Going on the 'good' path makes things even easier, as you gain access to a plasmid that grants you control over Big Daddies. Thus one particular sequence where you defend an area is made even easier by having a super-tough bodyguard on your side throughout the fight. I really do recommend trying some Source engine mods, though. You own HL2/TF2, so you should be able to get a large amount of gameplay for free. Hell, you own HL1 so there's an enormous amount of free gameplay out there for you. Last edited by Kargath; 05-21-2010 at 10:10 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

New mobo should arrive monday, second vid card will arrive whenever it does (birthday present from mom), so I've got some time left to make the decision. HL is in my backlog but I literally am the king of procrastination, so my backlog is huge, and I tend not to take games off it unless I've actually beaten them. Being an adult would be so fun if I actually had the time to do what I want. | |

Minerva in particular is apparently so good that the Valve team hired the guy who made it. When I was referring to HL1 I wasn't thinking more the game but the mods available. I'm pretty sure you and SD would have a blast going through the co-op of Sven's Co-Op. Steam Search for HL1 mods Steam Search for HL2 mods In addition to that is the Radiator series, which pushes the Source engine so much the guy is now hitting its internal limits. (Radiator isn't available on Steam, but can be found on Mods - Half-Life 2 Game - Mod DB which has a lot more mods) If you're looking for real graphical showcases, you'd probably be best off getting a commercial title, though. Since both titles have demos available for PC, just have a go once your new PC arrives and see which one you prefer. Hell, just take a look through the Steam store for demos in the under-$10 section. (Hey, Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter on Steam has a co-op demo!) |

Didn't play Deadspace so I can't help you there. As far as HL mods go, I've been getting into Age of Chivalry, which is kind of like a slower-paced TF2 with medieval weapons. I don't know if it's your kind of thing and there aren't a lot of servers, but it's pretty fun. |
