The mining job got done somehow, but now I can't get any of my dwarves to operate the furnace, which I need to make coal, which I need to use for the metalsmith's forge, so I can create more pickaxes (and anything else I may need).

WORK YOU BASTARDS

Edit: Wood burning is a labor? WELL, WHO'D 'A' THUNK

Don't you love the feeling of getting a Dwarf to do a new type of work? It means new opportunities, new horizons, new horrible agonizing ways to die...

One of my dwarves got possessed and commandeered a clothier's shop. He wanted some cloth and thread, and despite the fact that there was plenty, he never got up and grabbed it. He eventually went insane and started beating his own dog to death. By the time I had sent a squad in, the poor dog was dead and he was attacking another. I had my pacification force beat the crap out of him, though since I was still figuring out the military thing they were all unarmed and it took forever. The dwarf eventually suffocated and died. He was buried atop a hill with his dog. Sad story.

And now another dwarf has been taken by a fey mood. Hooray.

As if I didn't have enough things going on right now.

Anybody interested in a succession game?

I'm interested, I just don't have the time or skill

If VGF did do a succession game, we'd probably be better off going with the old 2D dwarf fortress or something in order to make the game simpler.

The old 2D Dwarf Fortress?

You mean there's a new 3D Dwarf Fortress?

Dwarf Fortress used to have no concept of 'vertical'. You only ever dug sideways into the mountain.

^ Ahh, I see.

So in my fortress I recently slew a Forgotten Beast with toxic blood that causes slow paralysis. The blood got on one of my soldiers and a couple war dogs. The war dogs limped over to the well, smearing blood all over the place in there. From there, it spread to almost every other animal in the fortress, and a few dwarves. Now there are animals lying all around the fortress, some unable to move, some already dead. It's like a pandemic now, and I can't get any of my lazy-ass dwarves to clean up that blood.
