id Software isn't going to license Tech 5

A good thing and a bad thing. Bethesda games are bound to start looking 100% better if they use Tech 5, but I've always liked how, despite being a relatively small outfit, id Software has always been incredibly important in the grand scheme of things.

And here I was hoping they'd manage to get Romero back sometime, but he's not going to be very attracted to that corporate kind of aesthetic.

I was under the impression that the main condition Romero had for working for a company was ready access to hard liquor and games journalists.

As far as I understand, he left id because he didn't like having others dictate how to design a game. He wanted to do what he wanted to do.

IIRC Carmack said they kicked him out because he was focusing more on living the high life rather than being productive.

I don't hear anyone complaining about his design work in Doom or Quake.

HE WAS PROBABLY TRYING TO MAKE THOSE GAMES SUCK.

HE'S ALSO A NAZI

AND EATS BABIES.

AND DRIVES HIS BOAT OVER MANATEES AND CORAL.

Honestly though, I don't even know if he works on video games anymore. He may have gone on to something else.

And if he hasn't, I don't think he's gotten any work for quite a while >_>

Just remembered this thread, dunno how I missed the responses.

I was reading about Romero awhile back. He's bounced around between a lot of companies, but it's pretty notable that Ion Storm actually developed Deus Ex after the nightmare of Daikatana, but were smart enough not to plaster his name all over it again. Food for thought.

There were two branches of Ion Storm. The one that did Deus Ex was not the one that did Daikatana.

Obviously, but he's credited for the game. As a founding member of the company, not sure if it's merely honorific.
