No posts on Elder Scrolls V yet?

Well it was announced a couple days ago to be taking place in Scandanavi-I mean Skyrim. So we finally get to see the rest of it.

I wonder if we'll get to explore fjords and other such stuff in this game....while watching poor reptilian Argonians freeze to death. :<

Huh. I can't wait for people to bash it

Seriously though, I loved the last one, so this one should be just as good.

Oblivion has eaten more hours of my life than any other game, and Morrowind is very close behind. Suffice to say that I will be preordering this the second Steam lets me.

I love the dude's voice. Especially the word "here." Something about the way is says it is super badass. (Well, I mean I know what it is but it's still badass.) I hope Nords talk like that in the game, or at least some character does.

Speaking of which, I hope they have unique voices for all the races. The three elf races sounded so different in Morrowind, and it was pretty lame that they shared a voice in Oblivion-- I especially loved the Dunmer voice in Morrowind. Also struck me as lazy and weird that Nords and Orcs sounded the same, and Khajiit and Argonians.

Anyway, this is gonna be ****ing awesome and I can't wait.

Yeah, watch as it's suddenly trashed for not being Oblivion enough the same way Morrowind was trashed for not being Daggerfall enough. :P

Game Informer site!

There's a thread at NeoGAF with some good, detailed info. I don't think I'm allowed to link to it directly, so here's a few bullets points the OP made.

I've read what GI has posted so far, but I'm probably not going to survive the wait if I keep doing that. Here's to hoping the spring/summer releases can keep me distracted until November.

The Dutch Power Unlimited dropped in my mailbox today. Highlights of the 4-page article:

"There is no level cap. You will nevertheless not be able to choose all perks with one character."

"Technically speaking, Skyrim is an evolution within The Elder Scrolls, and not a revolution (but everything looks fabulous). The magic of the world that Bethesda has created is nevertheless unequivocally present."

"All weapons have different properties, which you can take advantage of by choosing the right perks. Maces ignore a percentage of armor, and axes have bleed damage over time."

"You can use fast travel to revisit places you have visited earlier."

"Skyrim is approximately as big as Oblivion."

"Five big cities and more than 130 dungeons."

"Low-Fantasy" (Meaning the game does not look as vibrant, vivid and weird as Morrowind did, more like Oblivion) -> "Oblivion was for sure not over-the-top in terms of its style, but Skyrim should be considered low fantasy even more than its predecessor. Much of the locations look realistic, and could easily exist in our own world."

"The overarching narrative of the Dragons is less prominent than the Oblivion Gates were in Oblivion, which does not give you the feeling that you are doing 'useless' quests when you lay aside the Main Quest."

"Dragons are not rare."

"Dungeons will be locked at their level once you have been there." (Once you go to a dungeon, it will remain lvl 5 when you entered it on lvl 5. This does not imply that all dungeons are level-scaled, it just confirms that dungeons don't change difficulties throughout your savegame after you have entered them.)

"Even in third person, animations look really good. There has been a lot of progress since Oblivion."

"You can read in-game books in 3-D."

"Every item has a 3D-preview in the Flash based inventory, which you can twist, turn, rotate, etc. Sometimes you will solve puzzles by analyzing these 3D-previews. Not only armor and weapons can be explored in great detail, also small rings and herbs can be investigated from all possible angles. Every single item in the game can be previewed in the inventory screen."

"The Dark Brotherhood is back."

"Active blocking makes melee more fun to play."

"More traps and puzzles."

"Main Story is approximately 20 hours. Hundreds of hours for other quests."

"Every dragon you kill will make you stronger. A piece of his soul will be transferred to yours."

The article also describes how the game starts:

This time, the game starts with your execution, approximately 200 years after the events of Oblivion. Luckily, it seems that you are more than a helpless convict.

There's also an interview with Todd Howard in the article. These are the highlights of that interview:

"There are special animations for sneak kills with daggers." (The way it is written in Dutch does not imply that there are no special animations for other weapons btw...)

"We primarily look at how we can improve facial expressions and animations, graphics-wise."

"The game won't support Kinect. It takes too much memory."

"We are working at pop-up issues, and we want to make sure that the graphics of the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 are alike. All three will look just as good, aside from the higher resolution and the anti-aliasing of the PC of course."

"It is not yet possible to combine forms of magic. It is difficult. Frost magic makes an enemy move slower, and fire does damage over time, and the fire remains on the ground for additional damage. If we would allow the player to use fire magic in one hand, and frost magic in the other, it becomes much more complex. Maybe we will implement this though, but for the time being, 'No'.

"Someone modded Oblivion by changing the physics of shooting an arrow. It made you shoot slower and you almost had to remain stationary to shoot, which increased the arrow's impact. We liked this mod so much, that we implemented it in Skyrim by default."
Maybe by the time this comes out I'll have a good PC, so I can play this the cool way, using mods to get rid of stuff I don't like.
(expect some 'broken promises' though, Oblivion was like that with it's radiant AI I think)

I actually liked the Radiant AI. It didn't make the game immersive at all (I don't really get immersed in games - something always reminds me it's a game at one point.) but it sure was damn funny!

*Runs up to the count* I need to speak to the count

"Kvatch is under attack!" *runs towards Kvatch*

*gets knocked out and then stands back up with arrows sticking out of their chest* I saw a mudcrab the other day.

"These are dangerous times in the land of the Dunme-*gets knocekd out and falls flat on the table*
Guest: *stands there like nothing went on*
Countess: *reanimates herself on top of the table and then gets knocked out by my dagger and thrown into a guest*
Guest: Man, I guess the Countess needs to cut down on the Skooma.

*raking the bench or raking the carpet*

YouTube - Oblivion's Beautiful Artificial Intelligence (This ENTIRE scene!)

Guards: STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM! *murders someone...then looks over at the person they killed* My god there's a murderer on the loose!

*Gets out of bed* "The body's still warm...there's a murderer on the loose!" *goes back to bed*

"Everyone else in this dungeon has died. They went back here. *runs head-long into a trap*

Dude in shivering isles: PICKPOCKET! FILTHY PICKPOCKET! *yelling at a tree*

Runs-in-circles: Do you have any shoes? Or something crunchy?
Me: No.
Runs-In-Circles: oh no. Oh nonononnononononono. *runs around* Ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni-ni.

(...okay the last two were probably intentional - everyone in the Shivering Isles is mad.)

It was more entertaining than in Morrowind.

Guard: Move along citizen. *ignoring the Dunmer who's trying to punch me out*

Me: HEY GUARDS! EVERYONE IN BALMORA IS ASLEEP! PLEASE ARREST THEM!!!
Guard: Move along, outlander.

Mage's guild head: *normally stuck up to anyone else except Altmer* Oh hello there Nerevarine.
Nerevarine: ...weren't you talking down to me the other day?

*Guards and orcs start trying to walk through each other*

*knife slashes through the telvanni agent like butter*

Low-fantasy is a little disappointing. I think one of the reasons I prefer Morrowind over Oblivion is how crazy and foreign the world seemed. Cyrodiil was just kinda boring to walk around. Pretty, but not terribly interesting. I guess I can see Skyrim being like that, but if they do a more interesting province (Summerset Isles, Black Marsh, Elsweyr etc.) it better be more like Morrowind.

I was kinda disappointed that they didn't do Summerset Isles for the fact that even if the landscape looks like Ye Olde British Isles, the architecture would be amazing. (The lore states there's a city made out of glass - where you shouldn't throw stones and should get dressed in the basement.)

Morrowind was interesting with the alien landscape and how most of the population were Dunmer, but outside of the architecture and the east side, I found it kinda dull to explore. Your choices were brown landscape, Brown Ashlands, colourful town in a landscape of brown, then fertile lands on the east surrounded by brown barren land. It's better in the expansions, and with mods, though. Cydoriil meanwhile is GREEN!!!

Personally I predict that Skyrim will be brown and white. And that they'll be going for the "Look how realistic we are!!" look that most western games are going for nowadays.

I guess you have a point. But the awesome architecture (****ing mushroom towers!) and crazy trees and stuff really gave it a personality that Oblivion lacks. Even the Ashlands have random lava pools and ****, though I'll grant that they're mostly pretty boring.
