I tried downloading it and I got an error stating: "cannot access network location %APPDATA%\". Ok, no problem, I'll try again later. Later comes, I tried again, same message. I got a webcam for Christmas. Gonna download Skype. Guess what? "Cannot access network location %APPDATA%\". Ok, no problem, I'll Google up a solution. I found 4 different solutions. 1 being from Microsoft's own website. I tried the first one, no dice. Second? Nothing. Third? Still nothing. The 4th solution was a "Let us fix-it" file to download. So I downloaded it, installed it, ran it, etc. Nothing. So I have no idea what the heck the problem is. The common factor of all solutions was the "registry". I still can't download it. I only have Skype now because I stole it from a friend's computer. So... is my computer broked foreber? EDIT: The OS is Windows Vista, by the way. Last edited by Glux; 01-01-2011 at 05:24 PM. |

What does it say for the APPDATA line that comes out? |

He's in IT, so you can put your faith in his opinion on the subject. |

But, I did realize that I got a virus once that involved me messing with the registry* to really get rid of it, but I didn't mess with any of the "Roaming" ones. Did I ****-up badly? :< *as advised by Microsoft's website because apparently this virus is just a "female dog" to get rid of. |

You may have broken something with your fix, but the virus could have broken something too. Last edited by Kargath; 01-14-2011 at 10:53 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

This problem is usually associated with software configured for XP running on newer systems. If the distributor of the file claims it is for installation to various systems, try changing the compatibility mode to XP, anyway: Using Windows 7 or Vista Compatibility Mode - How-To Geek If you haven't already, any problems associated with user access controls can usually be solved by right-clicking the program and choosing the "run as administrator" option on launching the program. Lastly, this should probably be reported as an "Error 1606" - if you can verify that it is, these steps might solve the problem: You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program Try and verify what error code you're getting, as it's really the only important part of the message itself.
