Computer Mouse

Do computer mice deteriorate over time?

The mouse itself moves perfectly fine, but the cursor on the screen sometimes "sticks".

I've cleaned it out multiple times, and it's still acting "sticky".

Move the mouse to a different location when it sticks. After it's done sticking, does it just jump to the other location? If so, it's likely the computer just being fidgety.

If it doesn't, however, it might be the mouse. The most likely scenario being that the ball is slightly loose, therefore missing the sensors occasionally.

If it's a laser mouse and it's doing that, though, then I'm not sure what it could be.

If it's a laser mouse and you're on a reflective surface, that may be the cause.

Arrow VGF Forums: I've cleaned it out multiple times, and it's still acting "sticky".

Sticky mice might be due to lag on the computer. Do you get the same sorta attitude when you use another mouse?

Depending on the quality of your mouse, yeah, it could just break somehow. If you don't have an optical mouse, you should get one to replace your balled mouse, because those are totes obsolete.

It's a ball mouse.

I'm pretty sure it's the mouse. It doesn't happen all the time.

It usually only happens when I want to move the mouse slightly, like when I'm spriting.

I really want a laser mouse, I just haven't put too much effort into getting one.

A cheap laser mouse would be $15 or so. It's not too difficult to get O_o

Oh. Well, VGF can't cure laziness.

If anything, we cause it.

My mouse is having the same problems. Although, ours is the fact that my brother got addicted to Honey Buns once.

So I think the problem was the ball. I changed it out with another one and I haven't had any problems so far.

Same thing happened with our old mouse. We got a new ball, and it worked like brand new.

Hi Glux,
Do increase the ram of your computer and check the programs running in background.
Do update your antivirus program and scan the system thoroughly.

Because ball mice are analogue, they don't require high resolution for smooth gaming increments. They sure as hell break down very fast, though.

Sounds like the internal spin sensor's junk, buy a new one.

It ended up there was just lint and stuff stuck behind the spinners. I just needed to take it apart and really clean it.

I think this is what you need to fix now, then.

If you are performing activities that require more precision it would be worthwhile to invest in a laser mouse. It could very well turn out that you may suffer from the same problem again when the debris collects on the tracks inside your mouse with the ball system. They really aren't that expensive -- usually $40 or less.

I think this thread can be exterminated now. I made it 6 months ago, and I'm not even sure the last two people to post are even real people.
