Movie Maker Problems

(I'm not 100% sure this is in the right place)

If you follow my on YouTube and my LPs, you'll know that I have had many many problems editing/publishing/uploaded some parts of Paper Mario (like 1 part in the past 2 months problems).

Problems:
1: Every time my desktop PC tries to publish the part, it shuts itself down halfway through.

2: I move the converted files to my laptop, import them to Windows Movie Maker, and the colors are inverted.

3: I move the unconverted files onto my laptop, convert them on the laptop, and they don't import at all.

4: I make a Project file on my desktop PC, move that file to my laptop and the version I made it on is unsupported so it doesn't work (Desktop PC is Vista, Laptop is XP. I figured it wouldn't work, but it was worth a shot.)

I was wondering, VGF, if any of you have any solutions, OR know of any FREE movie editing programs that could work?

I'm not looking for a "stolen and distributed" programs, I mean actual "made to be free to the public" programs.

Please and Thank You.

Comparison of video editing software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a big list, and you can probably use the experience reading up on the wide variety of sequence editing programs out there.

If nothing else, I know Lightworks is free, now:

With the camera it's recorded in .mov format, but I convert them into .mpeg files. Same with when we record with Dazzle. It records in .vob, but I convert it into an .mpeg.

another way would be to get hold of old adobe licenes like CS3 or CS4 they are relatively cheap (if you compare them to CS5) but you should first see if they can read he files.

That's how i do it btw.
