| Star Wars The Old Republic Beta Weekend I've just been playing the beta weekend for Old Republic, as I got my key last week and got invited to start testing today. I went into the game with not much expectation or prior knowledge about it and its classes or the way it played, but having spent the last five hours playing it, I can safely say my interest has been piqued. In fact, that's a gross understatement. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in TOR, despite being a beta it felt extremely polished; I had no crashes, no lag and very few bugs (even the ones I did encounter were very minor). I was so impressed that as soon as I logged out I put my preorder in immediately. It's hard to really emphasise how much fun the game was, even in such an early stage, but I think much of it was down to it not feeling very grindy and the quests and zones having a good sense of flow to them - that is to say they weren't dotted around all over the place. I suppose if I had to summarise it so far, I'd say it has everything you'd expect to be present in a BioWare MMO about Star Wars, including familiar elements from other MMOs so that people like me don't have a big adjustment period to contend with in the early stages. If you've been invited to the beta weekend, I'm keen to know what you're thinking so far, what class you're playing etc. As it stands, I'm a level 6 Jedi Consular, but I'll probably roll a new char soon, potentially in the Empire to see how the story is from their perspective. |
