Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress is an awesome, awesome game. Has anybody here played it?

If not I suggest you Google Boatmurdered. It's a Let's Play of the game, albeit an earlier form, so if you play current versions the same basic gameplay is there, but there are some differences. Still reading Boatmurdered should tell you whether you'd like the game or not.

I play it every now and then. I've posted a couple of my expeditions on VGF, too.

Maybe if we get enough people interested, we could do a succession game.

That might be interesting.
It could be worth going back to the 2D version for simplicity's sake, though.
Another alternative could be using Stonesense and/or the Lazy Newb Pack.

You don't need to be great at the game, just good enough to keep the game going, and experience amusing failures that don't result in the fortress being destroyed.

The problem with the 2D version is that it's so slow.

I'd prefer not to play the 2D version, but if most of the players wanted then I could adapt.

^ Well, it's 3D in the sense that the world has a z-dimension along with an x- and y-dimension, and you can view it at different altitudes or depths as 2D cross sections.

Not 3D as in having three-dimensional graphics.

If you have trouble with DF I suggest you check out the wiki. Lots of good info there.

I'm really looking forward to the next release. Lots of good features, like improved cities, dungeons and night creatures.

Yeah, but I'd like to see a few more players.

Maybe we should advertise somewhere else in the forum? PC Gaming gets very few views.

^ Blow how hard? As long as you understand most of the gameplay, it'd probably be fine. At the very least it would make the game more interesting.
