Lewis Black's commentary on the whole thing was hilarious. Hahaha.

Bolt has a point, after you see the funeral once, it's over, but for the whole damn week every time you cut the TV on, BOOM it's Reagan. Yes, it's VERY sad he died, it's sad when ANYONE dies, but everyone is gonna die eventually, and at 93, I think he's prime rib for death

It's about celebrating the life of an American hero.

Reagan's right after Washington on my list of great presidents.

^Celebrate the hero's life, fine, but don't take two weeks of boring, repetitive press coverage to do it.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

On Fox, they aired live events and invited guests to talk about him. Wasn't boring to me.

...I dunno, I thought Jefferson and Lincoln were pretty good as well. Must refrain from insult...

Jefferson's probably number three. Lincoln was basically a dictator.

It's important for all of us to remember that the federal government did not create the states. The states created the federal government.

Quote:
The Virginia Ratification of the Constitution of the United States

Virginia, to wit:

We the delegates of the people of Virginia, duly elected in pursuance of a recommendation from the general assembly, and now met in convention, having fully and freely investigated and discussed the proceedings of the Federal Convention, and being prepared as well as the most mature deliberation hath enabled us, to decide thereon, Do, in the name and in behalf of the people of Virginia, declare and make known, that the powers granted under the constitution, being derived from the people of the United States, may be resumed by them whensoever the same shall be perverted to their injury or oppression, and that every power nor granted thereby, remains with them and at their will; and therefore no right, of any denomination, can be cancelled, abridges, restrained or modified by the congress, by the senate or house of representatives acting in any capacity, by the president or any department, or officer of the United States, except in those instances in which power is given by the constitution for those purposes; and that among other essential rights, the liberty of conscience and of the press cannot be cancelled, abridged, restrained or modified by any authority of the United States.

With these impressions, with a solemn appeal to the Searcher of Hearts for the purity of our intentions, and under the conviction that whatsoever imperfections may exist in the constitution ought rather to be examined in the mode prescribed therein, than to bring the Union into danger by delay, with a hope of obtaining amendments, previous to the ratification:

We the said delegates, in the name and in behalf of the people of Virginia, do by these presents assent to and ratify the constitution recommended on the 17th day of September, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-seven, by the Federal Convention, for the government of the United States; hereby announcing to all those whom it may concern, that the said constitution is binding upon the said people, according to an authentic copy hereto annexed.

And then the federal government pwned the states with the Constitution, specifically the Necessary and Proper and Supremacy Clauses.

Dude, "states rights" has been out of style since the 1860's.

You can't talk for two weeks straight about one man without it getting repetitive, and considering that he was 93 years old, this wasn't exactly a vast tragedy.
I bear no ill will toward Fox News most of the time, but they (& everyone else, for that matter) just went completely overboard.

That tends to happen during wartime, when Presidents are basically required to run the show on their own.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

The federal government is not over the states, nor equal with them. It's a contract between states, and no one party can be the sole interpreter of such.

Notice Jefferson Davis was never tried for treason. Maybe because the procecution would be laughed out of court.

There's a lot to say about a 93 year old life. Tens of thousands came to see his funeral; tell them they went overboard.

Uh, sorry, but I think overthrowing Maryland's legislature and placing New York under martial law was going a little overboard. I also think invading the South without the consent of Congress was kind of bad, and for a less serious offense, he started the income tax.

Jefferson Davis had his US citizenship revoked. While otheres in the south got theirs back after the war, Davis still has not gotten it back.
