According to CNN.com, it's only the 50 states and DC that gets an electoral vote.

MSNBC is calling Georgia, Indiana, and Kentucky for Bush; Vermont for Kerry.
Bush 34
Kerry 3

Both South Carolina and Virgina have also closed their polls, but CNN is stating that they don't have enough info yet to call it for either candidate.

CNN is reporting that West Virgina is going for Bush. Ohio and North Carolina aren't being called yet.

Ohio and North Carolina are now too close to call. West Virginia is too early to call.

Anyway, for my AP Government and Politics class, I have to keep a diary of tonight, so every so often I'll post it here.

Quote:
6:52 PM: So I guess I’ll start my journal now. It’s 6:52 and I am watching Hardball’s coverage on MSNBC. No real feelings on the election now, I just want to hear the results so I can get a feel of what the night is going to be.

7:00 PM: They’ve started projecting. Bush has taken Georgia, Indiana, and Kentucky. Kerry has taken Vermont. South Carolina and Virginia are too close to call, but being southern states, when the numbers come in, I predict Bush.

7:05 PM: Kentucky has also apparently passed an amendment over gay marriage, defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

7:17 PM: I just saw they spray painting the ice in New York for NBC’s little map. I thought it was going to be something cool where like they had lights under the ice or something, but no, just spray paint. Talk about crappy.

7:23 PM: Brian Williams is talking about the exit poll. Is the nation headed in the right direction? 47% yes, 50% no. This is down from 65% yes and 31% no in 2000. Bush gets 51% on job approval.

7:30 PM: Ohio results are about to come in. MSNBC is running a video intro before they announce it. Here it comes…. Ohio, too close to call. North Carolina, too close to call. West Virginia is too early to call. Virginia is still too close to call. South Carolina is still too close to call.

^^^...Eh...that's not quite what I was talking about. Usually, if there's a _______ City, the blank usually corresponds to the state the city is in (Nebraska City, Kansas City, etc...)

L47, how are you going to color in Nebraska? This year, if Kerry gets enough votes, he'll also get one electoral vote in Nebraska while the rest goes red.

So...are you gonna shade it purple? =/

I just thought I should mention what CNN is mentioning: The states that haven't been called yet aren't due to being too close, they're like that because they don't have enough info yet, and the network doesn't want to make a wrong call so they are being cautious.

It's never happened before, but if they do split the votes I will probobly just color it half and half. Or maybr stripes. Or polka dots, we'll see how much time I have.

7:34 PM: Drudge Report has West Virginia listed as Bush, but MSNBC has said nothing yet.

7:42 PM: They were just talking about governor races, and they aren’t calling Vermont because of a 50% rule. Does that mean that 50% of precincts have to be reporting, or 50% of the people have to vote? I’ll have to Google that later.

7:46 PM: MSNBC is calling West Virginia for Bush.

7:50 PM: Absentee ballots in Philly are not going to be reported tonight apparently, because of a pending court decision. To be decided tomorrow at 9AM.
