Thumbs down

It is already against the law to be drunk while driving, but it is currently legal to drink alcohol while driving -- as long as the driver doesn't get legally intoxicated. The proposed laws would ban having an open container of alcohol in a moving vehicle.

More proof that no man's liberty is safe while the legislature is in session.

Well, having open containers of any liquid in a moving vehicle is pretty stupid, but yeah, we don't need a law about it.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

Banning open containers is generally a good idea. Somehow, I'd like to believe that personal liberty ends when it concerns getting tanked while driving.

I'll have to agree with Lurch on this one.

That's the law here, and I think it works pretty well (unless you want to transport booze in a station wagon).

Actually getting tanked should obviously be against the law (on public roads, let the owner decide on private). My problem is that this goes too far.

Lets think about this people, come on. If I'm driving around sipping on my bottle of vodka, I might be doing it legally, but I'm still a hazard because my senses are starting to be depressed. Drinking alcohol and driving is stupid, and should be illegal.

A little drinking while driving never hurt anyone.

Because it doesn't hurt anyone unless you actually get intoxicated.

Depending upon the state's definition of "legal limit"...

Person + Beer = Drunk.
Person + Beer + Driving = Drunk + Driving.
As driving + drunk = trouble, you do the math.

If the legal limit is anything like Ohio (reduced to 0.08%), that's like about anything over one beer.

Your right. Those stories of people being completelty smeared across a highway/flattened/mangled by someone who was drunk and driving at the same time?

Obviously false.
