TV may shut off for good.

While it won't really effect me, this is really stupid. A clear example of something the government has no right to get involved in.

It's sad that with all the things going on the in the world, that the government can only worry about when to turn off analog TVs.

TV is pretty crap, but it will still piss me off that I'd have to hook them all up to something just for a freaking signal.

I was wondering if this would surface, or if they might just let it slip through the cracks.

We still used an antenna alongside our satellite box, until my dad found out that the he could get locals AND Leave It To Beaver reruns (aka TV Land) for just $5 more.

No, to avoid buying the stupid box, you need cable.

Not everyone could afford CDs in the mid-1980s when the switch started, but it happened.

Then people will have to go without. TV is not a necessary requirement of life, believe it or not.

Amazing how that works.

^ Actually that's not true. Not have a TV, you must do absolutely zero. To say not to have TV, you actually have to expend energy to say the words.

Honestly, what do you need TV for?

News? Switch to radio or a newspaper.
Weather? Likewise.
Favourite shows? Too bad, but you don't need that if you can't afford it; it's like the finer things in life as is.

Give me a really good reason why you HAVE to have a TV.

You're really being a **** about this, TML. The majority of inner-city blacks do not use cable or sattelite television, but also have worked television into their daily routine. The broadcasting system has always worked this way, and there is absolutely no reason why these people should be forced to make the jump. It would be a racially dividing action, in effect, to deprive what would be a majority of blacks and latinos(and the poor in general) suddenly of a service this culture has become dependent upon. Newspapers are cheap, but they aren't free, and some people can't read. Get with the program.

It is unacceptable to force consumers to buy, in ONE YEAR, new televisions and accessories for an otherwise unnecessary change. It's not even like the television companies have really begun producing sets to receive these signals in a truly affordable range.
