It's been blamed on a "power surge," which I think is crap. These had to be bombs. And for those who don't live in London, you should know that most of those stations (King's Cross in particular) would have been extremely busy and crowded when the bomb went off. I seriously doubt that a "power surge" would take place in some of the busiest stations in London, all during the morning rush hour. That is definitely planned. |

The BBC said it's likely to have been an Al Qaeda attack. Tony Blair also believes it to be a terrorist attack. There were 7 explosions: King's Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate East, Moorgate, Edgeware Road, and Tavistock Square (the bus). Anyway, Blair left the G8 Summit half an hour ago. At the moment, only two deaths have been confirmed, but there are most definately many more fatalities, even just from the bus that was bombed. |

Blair is coming back to London today, but he'll be back to Gleneagles this evening for the summit. The phone lines have been completely cut off, except for the emergency numbers (which we're not supposed to call unless in danger). My mum's trying to call a friend of hers to check up on her, but can't. There are still people stuck in trains underground. Oh, and my aunt called a while ago. Apparently she barely missed the King's Cross bomb. |

The Metropolitan Police have said they're not going to draw any conclusions as to who's done it. The Al-Qaeda group only posted claims of responsibility on one of their websites. No official responsibility claims have been given to the Met. 33 confirmed fatalities. That's going up soon when the emergency services announce how many died on the bus. |

NN's map shows where they were. The reason why they thought that there had been explosions in each station was that in 2 cases the bombs went off in between two stations, and the soot and smoke ended up reaching both stations. EDIT: I meant that there had been 4 explosions and not 7. That was a typo. [ July 07, 2005, 05:42 PM: Message edited by: Disraeli Gears ] |

They seem to prefer more large scale attacks. It could be an IRA splinter group as well. While I personally doubt that, you have to keep that open. I'm doubting it was a suicide bombing. It shows more signs of being a timed explosion (meaning leave the explosive devices in the trains/buses). Odds are heavily leaning towards some sort of Islamic terrorist group, though it may not be al Qaeda proper. |

They cannot succeed in the US so they bomb other countries, and even then are extremely inefficient bombers. They should have put on a uniform and fought in Iraq, but that would have required them to have courage. I am angry with President Bush for not taking haste in this war. We must kill the terrorists and make them fear us, otherwise they will just keep rising up to attempt such atrocities. Once we do defeat them, we need to then bomb Syria and then Iran. |

My mom found out about an hour ago when my dad called her. Truly terrible. My prayers go out to them all in London and the rest of Europe. |

That was a typo. People thought that there had been 7 explosions (one per station, plus the bus), but as it turns out the explosions happened in between stations so that the soot and smoke spread to more than one station per bomb. There was also speculation initially that 3 buses had been bombed, but this has been pinpointed down to confusion between sources of information. Only one bus was blown up. 30 dead confirmed. Since a lot of news teams were there on the spot and had to come up with something and the situation was confused in general, we got some bogus information. I can't say that there are 1,000 injured, that seems like a lot. |
