She gave money to Gore, so she can't be all bad.

Absolutely no experience as a judge. No record on anything close to a constitutional case. Bad idea.

I like how some of her biggest jobs before White House counsel were Staff Secretary, and chairwoman of the Texas Lottery Commission.

Uh.

That's the EXACT reason why people are scared. She has no judicial record, much like Warren, and warren turned out to be one of the most liberal justices in the last century.

I thought you were a liberal, Lurch. You used to be anyway.

I don't like the idea of Miers as a Supreme Court Justice. As Lurch said, she has no judicial record. She could be a good Justice, but then again she could be a total disaster.

I am liberal, I don't want someone sneaking in who would be the polar opposite of Warren and would use the position to roll back the last century of social progress.

Many others want the same, but for the other side(conservatives).

I would like to see a libertarian supreme court justice.

BTW, do you remember who I am, Lurch?

Oh I know, conservatives are being louder than liberals. George Will wrote a scathing editorial either today or yesterday essentially saying that the only thing bush is going with is "trust me," which isn't good enough. Conservatives don't want another Souter or Warren out of this. Something about making someone with no paper trail a judge clicks the same in my mind as the phrase "never trust a waitress who wears high heels."

Yeah i know who you are.

Bush's choices on Supreme Court nominees suck. I wasn't thrilled with Roberts and I am sure as hell not thrilled with Miers. I think both will turn out to be losers. Neither one of them has had a track record and I think that is a bad thing.

Personally, I would like to see a more libertarian Supreme Court Justice. Someone who would interpret the Constitution as it is and not from a slanted point of view.

On an off note, when did everyone leave, Lurch? You're the only person I recognize from the old NetGen.

I'm still here, although I'm not sure whether you remember me from NetGen. Tik also posts now and then.

I remember you and Tik. I think.

Lurch really sticks out in my mind though, because we used to get into some pretty heavy debates.

I was a hellraiser on the old NetGen.

Yeah, 'cause this is newsworthy. (AP > AOL)

It certainly is more newsworthy than her gross underqualifications

Anything that's bad for Boo is good for me. Hurray.

...although... I have to say that generally I'd prefer the Supreme Court Justice to have been... like... a judge...

^Heh. Chasing six shots of ouzo with a few rounds of shooters isn't good for anybody, old barf, and it's a fool who says different.

Harriet Miers doesn't belong on the Supreme Court. If Bush wants to pay her back for some obscure political debt, he should do what every other president does--give her an ambassadorship. Doesn't even have to be a good country--Liechtenstein's a nice, quiet little place, or so I hear.

To be perfectly honest (as well as perfectly cynical), I think the fact that no one wants her in the job is what's going to get her confirmed.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

^^I resent being called old barf. And also, why is it that the only other time I've heard someone pick out a random country as an example of what you were saying, it was also Liechtenstein?
