Machine that can extract 600 gallons of water per day from the air built

The 20-foot machine can churn out 600 gallons of water a day without using or producing toxic materials and byproducts. The machine was displayed on Capitol Hill last week where a half-dozen lawmakers and some staffers stopped by for a drink.

"I was pretty blown away by the things it's able to do," Rowe said. "The fact that this technology is not tied to humidity like others are makes it an attractive alternative for military bases in the Mideast where humidity is not really an option."

The average water consumption of a US household is somewhere between 100 and 175 gallons a day, but this kind of thing could be great in 3rd world countries where it's closer to 5 a day.

Well, if US households would do water-friendly things, we really could cut down on our use. I mean, we're one of the few countries which use drinking water to fill their goddamn toilets.

Still, awesomesauce.

Oh my God, that's incredible. Seriously. That is some science fiction type stuff right there.

Sounds excellent. My friend told me he read some book or article that said most future wars would be fought over fresh water. I told him I hoped that human innovation-- things like this-- would save us from that fate.

This is what I love about humanity. We make all sorts of problems, but we come up with brilliant ways to solve them. Not always, but sometimes.

What we want as the future will become the future, but in a new way, I suppose.
