Anyways, as a result of the widespread use of RoundUp, some weeds weren't killed and are now resistant to RoundUp. (yeah, it happens with weeds, too - not just bacteria and virus) Yeah, I know Monsanto deserves criticism for some of their legal stunts, but to be fair, this isn't entirely their fault - it's actually because there was too many people were using RoundUp and giving round-up resistant individuals chances to reproduce. (And weeds really reproduce fast and hard!) The Businessweek article actually mentions that there is an opportunity for other herbicides to be used since apparently, these RoundUp resistant weeds aren't as resistant to other herbicides...but on the downside, neither are the crops. (That's what helped sell RoundUp resistant crops from Monsanto - because you could spray it and it won't kill all your crops) Anyways, I know Organic Farming would probably be a good way to get rid of these things too, but that tends to take al ot more effort seeing as it doesn't involve using herbicides and herbicides and pesticides are really easy ways to deal with pests. |

The issues with pests is mostly because we're disrupting the environment so much that we don't want any place for them in our environment. It's been said that lawns (and agriculture) is nature under totalitarian control. |
