Any way to determine happiness?

I'm trying to get a Lucario, but I have to use a lot of happiness/Massage things because Gamefreak thought it would be really funny to make him evolve by bloody happiness.

My Riolu(or whatever Demi-Anubis is called) likes Dry food and has been massaged once. How many times does he need to be massaged to evolve, and is there any way to determine how happy he is?

It also has to be day time when he evolves.
