Not even a hint of its existence after I heard that, and no word of how to access said glitch. |

Again, back then, the only Ghost-type move that existed was Night Shade. Lick was Normal-type back then, and very weak- there are a few other moves that changed types other than the ones that became Dark, as well. Lick didn't do much of anything to anything, on account of its tiny power rating and reliance on pulling off a flinch with a pretty low % on it. |

Back then "Ghost" moves didn't affect other Ghost types, except of course for Night Shade. The RBY generation was full of programming foul-ups like that, though. |

I kinda miss how in that first gen, Poison and Bug were mutually supereffective. Now there's just poison's resistance to Bug. Sigh. |

Now it's only supereffective against Grass types. A good chunk of them are still duel poison, too. Plus it's not like anyone has trouble stoping grass types, since they have the most weaknesses in the game. I heard somebody say once that they should make poison supereffective against water types. It's kinda too late now, but honestly I agree. ![]() |

You know, Poison's main advantages are in its defensive value. Weakness to Psychic, Ground, and Steel (of which only Psychic and Ground are common attack types, and much more Ground than Psychic aside from the actual Psychic-type 'mon themselves), and resistant to Fighting, Bug, Grass, and itself, and consistently coming with high defensive values AND being incapable of being poisoned. It's much stronger as a 'mon type than as a move type, and helps to make Zubat/Golbat/Crobat what I consider pretty much the ultimate anti-Fighting 'mon for those of us who don't care for Psychic's typical glass cannons. A lot of it's a matter of personal style. I've always found Poison types to be much more to my liking than Psychics (Starmie excepted), simply because some of them not only have decent speed and solid offense, but they can also take a hit, which most Psychic types can't. Additionally, Poison is a strong status effect, and since Poison-types are inherently completely immune to all forms of it, that simply cuts moves like Toxic and Poison Gas out of the range of 'threat' entirely. For similar reasons, Dark doesn't fit my battling style nearly so well as Bug for an anti-Psychic team member. Bugs tend to have a lot more versatility, and usually have high Attack to go with their physical and, in generations other than the current, Attack-oriented moves. The sheer variety of combinations of type with Bug in them also gives a much greater range of choices than what I've encountered in the way of Dark/ or /Dark combos as well. Though, Dark does combo with the things Bug has yet to (Still haven't seen any Fire/Bug or Ice/Bug, both of which would be pretty neat to have.). In the end, to me, it boils down to that Dark really wasn't a necessary addition, and I happen to strongly lean away from glass cannons, which a lot of Dark-types (and incidentally, also Psychic-types and those Fire-types that aren't Fire/Fighting) tend to be. In fact, getting down to it, my entire battle strategy is very different from the usual Sweeper/Wall setup, in that I prefer to have versatility rather than STAB, power than time-consuming special effects that boost power, and all of my 'mon able to take a pretty solid beating before going down. |

Just... minor things, you know? Yeah. |

Nobody in their right mind is going to switch in Heracross on an Alakazam, because Bug was made to hurt Psychic, not resist it - the only thing that originally resisted Psychic, if you remember, was Psychic. Dark is important from a resistance standpoint more than an offensive one, or at least it used to be. From that perspective it was entirely necessary - more so than Steel, which has no offensive utility whatsoever, even though it resists more than half the attack types in the series. |

There ARE some offensive steel moves (Meteor mash, Flash Cannon, and Iron Tail come to mind) but most of the time, whenever my Steel pokemon kill something, it's the other type that's doing the damage, not the steel-type. Are Steel-type moves effective against any typing besides Ice? (Bronzong with Flash Cannon's really good against the Ice Gym if one doesn't have Infernape or Lucario handy) |
