Their soft wing fluttering sounds whispered in his ear. They whispered, “Adventure.” They whispered, “Journey.” At the moment, though, his stomach was whispering another thing. It was time to eat. The dinner was delicious. A steaming bowl of rice along with a grade-A sushi from the Pallet Town grocer completed the fantastic meal. The only bad thing was the persistent talking Jigglypuff he owned that never seemed to get in a pokeball. “Jig wants some. Gimme’ for I slap you silly.” Mano kicked the balloon-like creature away with his foot, choosing not to indulge the greedy specimen. He’s other pokemon were much better behaved. Two of them were part of the five newer species that Professor Blue had recently discovered. His dedication to becoming a pokemon master came from his father’s stories about two of the greatest pokemon masters ever: Red and Silver. Rumors were still told by Blue, Red’s former rival, of Red and Silver training together in the far-off Mt. Silver. “Get a move on, Mano,” said his less-than-friendly rival, Geno. “I’ve got a new pokemon, and I can’t wait to try it out against your pathetic bunch.” Mano stood up, strapping the belt that held his three pokeballs. Jig ran up beside him, sticking her tongue out at Geno. “How many are we gonna’ use.” Geno combed his hair back with his hand. “Seeing as how you don’t have any good ones, let’s make it two.” Mano grinned. “Perfect.” Mano ran in one direction as Geno ran in the opposite direction. They each threw their pokeballs at each other. “Go Puffy.” Out came one of Mano’s new pokemon. It was a pufforat that had been gifted in rock abilities. “Go Pika,” yelled Geno. “Thundershock now!” The bolt of lightning bounced harmlessly off Puffy. Mano sneered, “You should have known better than to use an electric rat. None of my pokemon are weak against that.” Geno looked puzzled, “Eh…weakness?” Mano snapped his fingers. “Let me show you. Puffy, use rock throw.” The 4-inch tall hamster looking creature raised his hands in the air, summoning a storm of boulders. They instantly crushed the yellow rat. Unfortunately, the small pufforat fell down in exhaustion. “Looks like we’ll have to decide on the last draw, Mano.” Mano didn’t say anything. He just waved his hand. “Go Clefairy!” Clefairy popped out, obviously confused of where it was. Then, Geno sent out an illegal two pokemon: machop and tyrogue. They pummeled Clefairy. Out of nowhere, Jig jumped in and performed a pound attack on both of them, causing them to fall to the ground lifeless. “Jig, I told you I could handle it this time.” The puff crossed her hands, “Wemember. We are partners. We gotta’ share da glory.” Mano pointed behind his back. “Now, Jig.” Jig stuck out her tongue and obeyed. Geno ran away after yelling, “I’ll get you back one of these days.” Mano walked to the grocer and picked up some pokeballs and potions. After all, the next day was the beginning of his journey. Gamma waded in thought as another Team Rocket member cowardly explained his failed mission. “Go away. Just be glad I didn’t kill you.” Gamma was slightly surprised when Rogue stepped out of the shadows of his room. “Disappointment all over the place, huh sweety.” Gamma secretly despised Rogue. She was the orphan daughter of Sabrina. “Shut up, Rogue. If it hadn’t been for you being, frankly, the best psychic trainer there is, I would have fired you long ago.” Rogue batted her eyelashes, “Hmmph. That’s what thanks I get for finding Mew’s location last week.” Gamma sneered. “Yes, but we need it and Celebi to run to combine their DNAs and create the ultimate…” “…pokemon with the perfect blend of power and anger management. I know, I know. I told you I was working on it.” Gamma spoke, “Well keep on it. I can practically taste the extreme power it will possess.” Rogue smiled, “Why want power when I could be all yours?” Gamma frowned, “Rogue…” Rogue waved him away. “I know, I know. Shut up.” Mano looked from his map to the complicated paths of the Viridian Forest. He knew the journey would be rough. He looked down at Jig busy spraying bug spray on itself. He grabbed it from her. He also knew he was lucky to have Jig, the strange jigglypuff by his side always. He owed her his life. It was that simple. |

Its speed was considerable considering its destination: home. Most creatures, Mano thought, would seem to find home full of too many memories. Bad ones. He wondered why the small creature was so intent on returning. Perhaps it had a family and children. No. Only butterfree could lay eggs. What was it then? For a moment, the caterpie was distracted. It met eyes with Mano. Its distraction cost it its life. During the instant their eyes met, a huge pidgeotto flew down and scooped the creature up in its claws, pondering not about all the things that Mano had. He thought about saying, “All good things come to an end.” He thought about saying, “Nature will take its course.” In Mano’s mind, though, the only appropriate saying was, “That figures.” Then, he noticed Jig up ahead, silently waiting for him. “Go ahead, Jig. I’m coming.” The loyal pink creature nodded its head, “Otay.” A rattata scurried away, barely escaping an unpleasant death by being crushed by a Team Rocket member. “Rogue said that Celebi had to be found immediately. Now, my sensors say that its location is right about…” he looked at his sensors. “Here. In the Viridian Forest.” The troops he, Capt. Slash, commanded, had been run constantly for the past two days. After all, it was very rare that Celebi would stay in one time for any amount of…well…time. Yet, now, Capt. Slash finally had a chance of entering the big leagues. He longed to join Rogue and Chaos, the strongest, as the top commanders next to Gamma. Now would be his chance. Perhaps, his only chance ever. “Sir, the sensors have stopped.” The talking troop looked up from his sensors. “It’s found its forest.” Slash nodded, “How convenient for us. Remember, we disable it at all cost. After that, catching it will be a breeze.” Mano walked with Jig on his shoulders. She had become tired after awhile. Mano didn’t mind packing the puff around because it weighed almost nothing, and the beauty of the forest pervaded his weary body and planted a seed of peace. The peace blossomed because of some unknown fertilizer. He couldn’t quite but his finger on it, but he knew the source was there, peaceful and calm; the picture of serenity. Then, as Jig dozed off, he noticed it. Far, but not too far in the distance, sat a green, glowing pokemon. It danced on a log, trees blossoming at amazing speeds all around it. It purred softly, “Cele, cele, bi. Cele, cele, biiiii.” Jig woke up because of her own burp. “Extuse me. Ohhh, wook at dat. Wook at dat, Mano.” Mano stuck one finger up in front of her mouth. Jig whispered, “Ya want I should catch the dang thang.” “No, no no. Watch.” Jig shrugged and went back to sleep. Then, it looked up. “Cele,” it said, obviously surprised. In the blink of an eye, it was right in front of Mano, a mere foot away from his face. The glow covered his entire body, lifting all worries. It came forward and caressed his face with one of its limbs. “Celeeeebiiiiii.” Mano could hardly breathe. Suddenly, an evil voice called out from the distance. “There it is…with that kid. Get it.” Pokeballs hissed open and five venomoth flew in front of him. Their wings were full with color, a sign of strong poison. Slash zoomed by, knocking Mano to the ground. “Outta’ the way kid. This is grown-up business.” Jig tumbled a few feet before saying, “How wude. Ya want I should beat em’ up.” Mano rubbed his hand over his face in defeat. “Yeah, I guess so.” Jig smiled and pulled back her arms. “Excellent. Time ta get tough. Puff tough! Go metronome!” With a flash of light, thunder and fire hailed down and smoked all the flying insects. They fell to the ground, lifeless. Slash and the rest of the team backed off. “How…how did ya teach your jigglypuff to do that?” Mano stood up. “She’s not mine. We’re partners. My pokemon would have probably lost to yours. The victory is all yours, Jig.” The small puff bowed and then stuck out her tongue at the no-goods. “Yo quarry is gettn’ away too.” Slash looked up surprised, as did Mano. Mano’s eyes met the strange creature’s one last time before it vanished into the depths of time. “Bye,” he whispered. Slash turned to Mano. “Ya creep. Your partner just probably cost me my promotion. You’re going down.” One of the troops ran up and tapped him. “Sir, we’re in luck. It is still in our time. It’s in Johto, though.” Slash smiled, “Excellent. Contact the base and tell them to have a chopper ready for us in Pallet Town. We’ll get that little worm yet.” As they were running off, Slash yelled to Mano. “You’ll pay kid. You and your partner both.” As Slash was running, he realized that the mysterious jigglypuff could talk. He had other matters to contend with at the moment, though. He wouldn’t forget the strange pair, though, and that was a fact. An hour later, Mano and Jig were at the outskirts of Viridian City. “Dere is da pokemon centa. Wet’s go, Mano.” Mano looked back at the forest where he had seen the mystical pokemon one last time before turning to Jig on his shoulders. “Yeah. Let’s go.” Please tell me what you think, and if you want to read more, you can read it here. http://www.crowleytool.com/mario/chapter_16.htm |
