Depends on if you send it out at the same time or are forced to switch it into the Gyarados. If the switch is force it'll get that DD, and then you're in trouble.

Once upon a time in my emerald game, I caught a level 8 hasty male magikarp on route 120 and nicknamed it "Weak" as I actually needed a magikarp to work on my pokedex. Weak was actually useful for one purpose: to help capture dittos in the desert underpass as I would start off with a synchronizing pokemon, then switch to Weak to make ditto transform into a magikarp that only knows splash, then switch to a false swiper and eventually throw out a pokeball for the easy capture of dittos. Later on when I started breeding for magikarps for better nature & IVs, I paired it with an adamant ditto until I got such as a female then continued breeding with that one while Weak at least got up to level 13. Eventually I would get that desireable magikarp which would later be the gyarados I used for the VGF tournament which can learn dragon dance & ice fang by leveling up, earthquake by TM & waterfall by HM and I would also use it in the Gamestop PBR tournament as it was part of my "Gyaravire" combo (gyarados/electivire) to sweep through teams in the earlier rounds before I lost to my son in the finals.
