For those of you who don't know or remember, he was one of Scribe's biggest letter hacks in it's heyday, and of course one half of the co-founders of dkvine. Here's what it says: "Um... hello. This might be an unusual request, but I didn't know how else to get in contact with people I know used to visit Donkey Kong's Jungle Vine. I still have the names and e-mails of our UBB posters on record (Big Brother is watching you), and I recalled you were a poster at the VGF Forums, where I know a few former DKVine readers still haunt. I've lost my usernames and passwords for the place, so I need you to deliver a message, if you would be so kind. In the time since the Vine died its final death, I've become just as obsessive as I was with the DKU when I first started the site back in 1999. Part of that is due to the fact that I've discovered Banjo-Kazooie is a great chick magnet (I'm dead serious). I've been visiting sites left and right, hoping to see if there's any diehard DKU fans out there. Unfortunately, I can't find any, and I was postively heart-broken to see the attitudes at the IGN Donkey Kong message board. Just for fun, I registered there and decided to go on long-winded tangents about Donkey Kong. They have received no replies, and instead things like "dude they should have kept kamek in Mario cart 64 dk SUX his son dk jr. is better" is the norm. I know the fanbase for Rare's Donkey Kong is out there, but they're scattered and divided. Where's the outrage for more Mario Party games? (a Mario Party e-reader deck?) Where's the doom and gloom for Nintendo wrecking the franchise? ("Nintendo can do no WRONG, dude! Miyamoto power! Let's go gardening!") Where's the fun discussion about what the future holds for Banjo and Conker in Microsoft land? ("RARE BE TRAITORS, BY GAWD!") What I'm trying to say is, Rare DK fans need something out there. We need to combat the idiocy of the GCN generation that's going to be raised to believe Diddy is Donkey Kong's son and Donkey Kong Junior's brother (don't believe it's going to happen? Trust me, it will) The Vine is dead. The server and address expired, and with all due respect towards the new editiors who tried their hardest, you just can't throw a site with mammoth content towards five newbies and expect them to carry the weight. It was unfair towards them, and we decided to just end it. However, that doesn't mean the content is gone. I've been planning my own site since Green Porn City ended. I've finally realized though that I need to do a humor site as well as a video game site. DKVine was kind of like that, but I got tired of doing humor pieces that always had to be connected to Donkey Kong. Yet, I missed the DK and Rare connections when I did Green Porn City. So, why not do a humor site that has a subsite for Rareware news, features, reviews, message boards, etc? Yes, the primary focus would again be Rare's DKU (even the friggin' cameo games), but we'd also talk about Kameo, Perfect Dark, and others. The kicker is I'd get most of the old dkvine content up on there if I can. Now, keep in mind this is all in the planning stages, and I need to know if there's any interest in this project. A humor site with non-video game features and content, while the other half is a Rareware tribute site that updates frequently. Yes, I'd be the only editior, but that doesn't mean the old dkvine crew can't help me with things (I've already had a few discussions with Chad). I just need to see something for true DK fans out there. If I hear one more time that DK Jr. is the current DK's son, I'm going to scream. E-mail me at WadeTheNanite@aol.com (my non-spammed out e-mail address) for words of encouragment or advice with this project. I need it. -Slush" I've missed the Vine like heck for the last few months, and I'm sooo glad to hear about this possibility. It would be GREAT to be able to talk about the DKU again, and whether you liked the site or not, dkvine was the largest Donkey Kong site ever on the Internet. I'm glad we're going to see a spinoff of it. |
