Nintendo seems to be pushing the 'Kong franchise further and further into platform obscurity. I mean, the 3D cgi gimmick worked on the first DKC game, but they can't pull that rabbit out of the hat any more. They tried to all the way up to DKC 3, and they just really couldn't catch onto the concept that someone stepped on their pet. That someone was Sony..

Stepped on Donkey Kong? I'm afraid I don't follow.

I just mean they brought back the series by slapping the 3d graphics label onto it. They made dk64 which pushed the series into obscurity because the genre was already super-saturated by playstation and 3rd party games. They made DKR, which very well could have been an extended mario kart.. I'm just saying I wish they could innovate a little bit. I like DKC and even DKC2, but then it just seemed like they weren't even trying after that.

I think the problem is that they did innovate and failed. Alright, so DK64 and DKR weren't innovative games in themselves... they still departed from the original DKC gameplay. That's why the DKC and DKL games were good, and DK64 was not - DK64 wasn't a Donkey Kong game in nature. It had all the DK graphics and gimmicks, but very little actual Donkey Kong Country-style gameplay.

Well I guess you're going to hate Intelligent Systems's Donkey Kong Next. It's basically 3D Donkey Kong in 2D on Gamecube. Nintendo's attempt at repeating the success DKC had.

If you're wondering Intelligent Systems were the ones who made Paper Mario, the 2D in a 3D world.

So you're all saying that some Donkey Kong games are DK versions of Mario games!?

I couldn't figure the title out either, but it doesn't really seem like it would give Master Mario the idea that he thought the original poster had.
