There are eight people immediately surrounding you, five males and three females. They all look as dazed and confused as you, but some are starting to sharpen up. One of the males, an older, violent-looking type, attacks another male (this one barely into his teen years) with a stick, and the two begin to fight, although the contest is clearly uneven-- the kid is outmatched. Everyone else looks on, but they begin to eye each other warily.

What do you want to do?

(By the way, Marth and KB are there. You're free to interact with each other in any way you wish. Be warned, though-- if you die and your soul is stolen by another player, you'll have to create a new character. If you're killed by an NPC, on the other hand, I'll let you restart from that battle or situation-- I'm not that cruel.)

You can see the following people, and discern these physical characteristics:

Teenage M (a) (fighting Adult M) (frail)
Adult M (fighting Teenage M (a)) (strong, fast)
Young M (fast)
Older M (tough)
Young Adult F (fast, weak)
Teenage F (tough, slow)
Young Adult F (b) (average)
Teenage M (b) (fast)

By the way, "Young" is older than Teenage but younger than Young Adult.

I'll fight Adult M, since he's probably slightly weaker now...

I think I'm gonna hide the numbers again this time.

Adult M vs. Teenage M
Adult M attacks Teenage M. Hits.

Teenage M attacks Adult M. Hits.

Adult M attacks Teenage M. Hits. Teenage M dies!

Adult M leans toward Teenage M's body. Attack now?

Well, I wanted to sneak in and hit Teenage M when he had low health, but if the numbers were hidden... :\

Yeah, attack now. Don't let him steal the soul! I want it! If I can, while he's distracted from my attack, I'll grab the soul. If not, I'll just beat on him.

You lunge at the guy, who quickly decides to finish taking the soul before dealing with you. He looks rejuvenated.

SURPRISE ROUND

Bobbo attacks Adult M. Hits.

The teenage girl tried to attack before the man got the soul, but was unable to. Undismayed, she attacks now and hits.

BATTLE

He attacks you and hits. You're badly injured, but you can still fight. He swings the stick again, but this time blatantly misses-- he wasn't even close.

Man: Wha? You're right--

Your turn.

Beat on him with my stick as much as I can. If possible, when he swings at me next, try to dodge, or even catch his stick and rip it out of his hands.

You hit him, and he reels at the impact. He shortly recovers and takes another wild swing, which you easily dodge.

Your turn.

Keep hitting him, trying to keep him off-balance.

You hit him, and he goes down, swearing.

Do what?

Then I'll steal his soul. If I "don't know how to do it", I'll just copy whatever he did to the guy he just killed.

Okay. You pick up his corpse and slam your ring onto the area where his heart should be. The item begins to work by itself. A transparent image of the man emerges from his body and appears to be sucked into the ring. A smaller, fainter image that may be of the young man he killed earlier does the same. Most of your wounds close up; a moment later, you feel fully healed. The anticipation of power flows through your veins, but you don't feel any stronger quite yet.

You look around you, and the world seems to shift. You see several vague outlines-- human, you think... one of them falls down, and a red force drains out of him and goes into another one.

You think you hear somebody whispering in the back of your head, but you aren't sure.

~Kill...~

You shake it off and look around. You seem to have a better grasp on things now. You see two of the women running off, and a dead young man in a slowly growing pool of blood. Two others, a man and a woman, are standing over the older man, who is also dead. They are talking calmly.

What do you want to do?

First of all, can I cast my spell now?

Also, is anyone looking fatigued from battle or anything like that?

You look around, but you're not sure.

Yeah, you can cast the spell, I forgot to put that in. (It was late.)

Your other new spells:

Raging Strike-- Does extra damage based on the number of souls stolen. Higher levels of insanity give higher damage.
Evaluate-- Assesses nearby enemies more accurately than by sight. Includes intelligence and willpower assessments, as well as a vague gauge of MP status and a more accurate HP gauge.

You can't quite cast these yet, but you'll be able to in a few minutes. They have to assimilate, just like the rest of the souls' power.

Did I get those because those people before me had them, or did you just make them up?

I'll wait a bit, then use Evaluate.

Game-wise, the people before you had them. If you wanna get technical, I just made them up. In the future, though, they'll be able to cast probably at least two spells, so I'll have to have them beforehand. Then you'll get them, or some version of them.

On both nearby people? It costs 10 for one, 15 for two, 25 for three, 30 for four, etc. There are only two people nearby (the girls are out of sight by now).

Yeah, on both of them. That would be KB and Marth, right?
