You've run off from the academy in Cair Valdune, with nothing on you, and owing a mountain of debt in tuition and fees. Wanting the money you owe them, the academy has sent mercenaries to try and track you down, but you've fled to the port city Crossroads, where you nobody knows who you are, and there's always a gold piece to be made.

Crossroads is a large city, with a massive port. There's an open Market, where anyone can set up shop for a nominal fee to the local council, and a Merchant's market where the city's richest merchants operate their buisnesses from. The city has a number of river channels running all over the city, so people can take boat rides to get where they need to go. The city thrives on trade and tourism and is the largest and richest city in the kingdom.

What's your plan?

Need money and materials.
Getting a job at the local apothecary should help with that, plus it would help to gather information about some of the mercenary crews in the area.

After searching around, it seems like there is one apothecary in town with a building in the Merchant's market. Otherwise, the only ones in town are travellers who run stalls in the Open Market when they're in town.

The apothecary is simply called Anderson's Apothecary. When you walk in your greeted by a variety of interesting smells and a large collection of potions and non perishable medicial and alchemical ingredients in bins and on shelves. The shop keeper is an older man, looking to be in his mid 50s or 60s. He looks to be in excellent shape aside from his graying hair. He looks over at you and says "How may I help you?"

"Sir, as I have recently finished at the academy at Cair Valdune, I wish to start a temporary apprenticeship in order to gain some real experience in medicine and potion-making."

(If that doens't seem to impress him )

"Look, I need a job in a bad way, and I'll break my back doing whatever you need done."

He looks you up and down. He moves over to some of the shelves and picks up some ingredients asks you about them. You're easily able to recite what they are. He does this with a variety of ingredients, and some of the potions and salves as well.

"You're not bull****ting me about knowing your stuff at least. I'll give you a week's trial. If I like you and you don't screw anything up, I may keep you around. Do you have a place to stay in town? And what's your name kid? You never introduced yourself."
