Star Wars Spotlight #6: Wampa Ice Creature

Appearances: Episode V

The ice monsters live on the frozen system of Hoth. Luke Skywalker and his Tauntaun were attacked by one the these beasts when scouting the area. It bound Luke to the ceiling of the cave while munching on the Tauntaun meat. The Wampa noticed Luke trying to escape and went after him. Luke reached for his lightsaber and sliced the Wampas arm off and escaped.

Fun fact: In a deleted scene of The Empire Strikes back, several Wampas attack the Echo Base. A few rebels corraled them into a room and lock them in, placing a DANGER sticker on the door.
After Darth Vader and his troops entered the base, Han, Leia and C-3PO ran past this door while being chased. 3PO ripped the sticker off the door, and the imperial troops opened it to check inside...and were mauled by Wampas.

On a later trip to Hoth, Luke engaged the Wampa that had attacked him years before, and managed to kill it.

Yeah I saw pics from that deleted scene on the dvd's. Wish they would have a special edition where you could actually view deleted scenes from the OT.

However, the Wampa's spirit continued to haunt Luke for years afterward until Obi-Wan's spirit came and kicked its butt.

"Wampa" is such a funny name. Was it one of those things that knocked Luke off his ice camel thing on Hoth? -CSM
