^You misunderstand. He wasn't saying that LotR relied on CGI less than Star Wars did (although if you consider the Episode 3 "sets," that's true anyway); he was saying that LotR didn't rely on it in the same manner as Star Wars did. It's the whole issue of tool-vs-crutch.
