| Guest Posts: n/a | No. Zelda is not a typical RPG, and it doesn't deserve to be treated as such. ![]() "Subrosiani vincent omnia!" (Subrosians shall conquer all!) The Legend of Zelda: A Lasting Legacy |

At least I think that's what it is. ![]() "The purpose of arguement is to change the nature of truth." -Frank Herbert, Children of Dune "I have been described as a lighthouse in the middle of a bog: Brilliant but useless." -Connor Cruise O'Brien. |

As with almost any 3-D game, if the world is big enough, players will have fun simply existing and moving around in it. I know that was the case with myself when I was playing Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I would love to see the game developers expand on what those two games showed us in terms of the over world. Sure, they were great, but pretty small to be called a country (in my opinion). I think that for a Zelda online game to work, there would have to be a new plot line, one that was not very linear at all. Take games like Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City. Those games have an incredible replay value. Even after all the missions are done, it's still fun to just mess around - and with the addition of certian cheats (like riot mode) the game gains a new perspective to be explored in. Of course, as with anything that remains untouched, over time even games like that can become simply a novelty. To counter that, perhaps the designers could incorporate events within the game. Something similar to what they are doing in Star Wars Galaxies? (I can't remember if this was the one). I've always believed that in games like this, player's characters should be extremely customizable and therefore unique. Phantasy Star Online made a good attempt at this, but really only scratched the surface. Even the addictive game The Sims fell short in a way, as you were limited to what you could find. Providing you were an accomplished skinner, you could make virtually anything, but not everyone was. For the Zelda game, I think character creation should extend to almost all major species shown in the game; Hylian, Zoran, Goron, Gurudo, Kikori, (ignore the spellings) and even some monsters. Next to the Zora body, in Majora’s mask, the Deku Scrub was my favorite. |

Why not make 'em adventures LIKE Zelda? |
