The Entertainment & Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), the UK's collective gaming industry identity, today announced that Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has become Britain's fastest-selling game of all time, across all platforms. The "M" rated game has sold one million units in just nine days at retail. Roger Bennett, director general of ELSPA, said, "What has been so satisfying is the exceptionally high level of awareness for both GTA and video games in general, in both media coverage and the public consciousness." Bennett elaborated, adding that, "perhaps for the first time, we have seen the kind of buzz which one would normally only associate with the release of a blockbuster movie, endorsing once again the increasing economic, cultural and mass market impact of interactive home entertainment." One million copies. In nine days. In Britain ALONE. Wow. And statistics are that it sold 677,000 in the first three DAYS of its release in Britain alone, with 1.5 million all over Europe. I still haven't been able to find any statistics about the overall, but I'm sure those aren't going to be any less grandiose. And get this: San Andreas is headed at incredible speeds to the spot of number one best selling game ever, a spot that is currently occuppied by none other than GTA: Vice City. I wish I'd convinced my parents to invest in stock on Take 2 all those many years ago... We'd be rolling in cash by now. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote of the week: “A day without denial is a day you have to face.” – Calvin & Hobbes ![]() Pointless fact of the week: Your brain is more active while sleeping than while watching television. |

The area of the game is massive, the possiblities of what you can do are huge, and the main storyline itself is quite long. The graphics aren't FFX, but they aren't FFVI, either. The people working on this game must have been geeks. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Quote of the week: “A day without denial is a day you have to face.” – Calvin & Hobbes ![]() Pointless fact of the week: Your brain is more active while sleeping than while watching television. |
