I've played both before, but not since I was a wee wanker. Beat FF8, not FF9. But I've been dying to play them lately, so I went and ordered them, and now they're sitting there, waiting to be owned. I'm gonna play FF8 first, then after I beat that, FF9. Both games should be easier, since when I first played them I didn't understand the concept of grinding (and in FF8, I didn't figure out how to Junction spells until Disc 4). This'll be sweet. Maybe I'll post an update on my progress every now and then. Until that, anyone else here play FF8 or FF9? If you ask me, I thought FF9 was one of the best in the series (few seem to argue that), and FF8 was grossly underrated for what a great game it was. DISCUSS. I personally loved both VIII and IX, and if I ever get a chance to play it, will probably love XIII as much as you seem to, val. XP |

I started it, but never really warmed to it right away. We shall see. |

It was a big graphical improvement over the crappy FF7 polygons, and the Junction system was oh-so-exploitable. On my first playthrough, I skipped playing the Triple Triad card game along with the story. On the second, though, I totally got into it; collecting the unique cards was serious business, more serious than, say, saving the existence of timespace. It got a bit tricky later on, when I found out that FF8 is an anti-grind game; keeping your level as low as possible makes the game easier, since monsters scale their level to yours, but you can still junction more powerful spells to your stats. At that point, the game difficulty curve was broken, as I would constantly be in the yellow to pull off limit breaks every turn. And then there's Zell and the "Super Ultimate War God Breaking Punch"... |

Can't save to the memory card, something's wrong with it. So, gotta figure that out first. D: |

....wow. Something like that actually happened to me with Tactics Ogre. o.o I have two PS1 memory cards. One of them is a yellow one which I think is third-party and for some odd reason, Tactics Ogre didn't like that one yellow memory card. Every other game I tried worked just fine on it, but for some odd reason, Tactics Ogre just didn't liek that one memory card. Every time I tried to save, the save would work for a little while but then start to corrupt. I thought it was the game (being only 14. *shrugs*) but tried another memory card and it worked perfectly. So tl;dr, do you have a different memory card? If so, try using it. | |

I need a PS1 memory card in order to save, a PS2 one won't work. I'm getting on that... |

They say it has backwards compatibility, but the fact is I could never save a thing to ANY memory card on it. I played Legend of Dragoon once and that didn't work. But now both my PS2s and my PSOne are broken so I'm gonna have to wait and see if FFVIII and FFIX will be downloadable online. I think Square should do things like this. -CSM |

I only beat FF9 though, opposite of you, Val. And I agree that FF9 was one of the best in the whole series. |
